We definitely found out a few surprising things about the Captain Marvel movie at SDCC recently, and now The MCU Exchange have followed-up with a report of their own which is sure to please comic book fans... provided it turns out to be on the level, that is.

According to their sources, Kree hero Mar-Vell (the original Captain Marvel) will indeed be making an appearance. Though they're not sure if his earth-bound alter ego Dr. Walter Lawson will feature, they do expect him to be involved in the Psyche-Magnitron accident which gives Brie Larson's Carol Danvers her powers.

This accident is responsible for altering Danvers' genetic structure to transform her into a half-Kree superhuman, and apparently this will will be used to explain why the character won't appear to have aged between the events of her solo movie - which is set in the '90s - and her reintroduction in the still untitled Avengers 4.

In addition, the earliest drafts of the script reportedly include references to Carol's early days as Ms. Marvel, and it sounds like we can expect to see some version of that costume onscreen.

We'll have to take this with the usual pinch of salt for now, but it does seem to gel with what we learned about the film a couple of weeks ago.

Carol getting her new costume after she became Captain Marvel is one of my favorite changes to a character ever.

@TheUnworthyThor - This one?

@GeneralZod - No I like the current one.

@TheUnworthyThor - I would love to see the Dave Cockrum late 70s updated costume, which is so classic, but the studio will be criticized as being sexist if we see Carol in those threads -- so not going to happen, I guess.

@TheUnworthyThor - I really like the updated one, as well. But I'll always have a soft spot for the Cockrum design. Maybe Larson will have a "I'm in space in my underwear" moment like Alien or Gravity and be wearing (in effect) a dark onesie with yellow piping motif on it as an homage.

@GeneralZod - I applauded it as a change that had to be mad for the hero to continue, of course I grew up with the other costumes and will always like them, but now my (potential) daughter can actually dress up as her favorite superhero and won't be taught that to be accepted by boys she has to have her ass hanging out.

If there is an appearance from Marvel, then why couldn't he be Captain Marvel and she be Ms. Marvel? If you're going to deviate from the source, don't half step. Just completely make the character your own to avoid confusion with those that are very familiar with the source material.
