Prepare for a barrage of Marvel news, as the studio recently invited several outlets to their headquarters on the Disney lot in Burbank, CA for a mysterious “Open House” tour. There, they were greeted with a tonne of new concept art and movie footage, including the press' first glimpse of Brie Larson as Captain Marvel.

All of the reports indicate that Carol Danvers' outfit will be mostly faithful to the character's look in Kelly Sue DeConnick's 2012/13 comic run. Here's a more detailed breakdown of the three images that were showcased courtesy of Nerdist:

"The first two featured Brie Larson in her costume, which appears to draw heavy inspiration from her classic comics suit. Though the design kept Captain Marvel’s signature eight-pointed star emblem square on the chest, its look and feel were more akin to Ant Man’s suit than Iron Man’s. Like a form-fitting armor, her suit is less spandex and more military grade, covering her whole body. Her iconic sash is more of a utility belt, favoring function over form. In the concept art she stands tall, staring off into the distance, looking hopeful but tough."

The third pic depicted Danvers engaging an unnamed baddie in combat. The mysterious character is described as "something in a giant metal suit with a helmet; the creature looked almost like the Kree sentries."

It'll probably be a while before fans get to see this artwork for themselves, but what do you make of this first description of Captain Marvel's costume? Keep an eye on CBM for more Marvel news later today.

@JourneyIntoMystery - Movie studios don't like masks and helmets. If they can avoid using one entirely (and Captain Marvel is one they can avoid), then they probably will.

Which is fine with me. Carol's mask isn't even something she wears all that much in the comics.

@Lostcause - That's possible yeah.

@Spock0Clock - True that. Cap and Spidey can't keep their faces covered to save their lives!

Cool!

I wish they did a Ms. Marvel movie b4 this...missed opportunity... would've been cool to see her evolve into Cap Marvel..

I hope they release a pic...probably at CC.

@Spock0Clock -She uses it mostly in space when she is chilling with S.W.O.R.D. agents or GoTG.

@Lostcause - Yeah, but she doesn't really need it. That's my point.

Ant-Man's helmet is functional in the comics and they've adapted it to be basically an environment suit for when he shrinks/grows. Spider-Man has a secret identity and is too iconic to ever consider ditching. They cheat with Iron Man's helmet cam.

But there's just not a real strong reason to give Carol her mask, which she doesn't even wear all that much in the comics. The suit/symbol and hair (and sash *sob*) are the more iconic elements.

@Spock0Clock - I agree 100%. I'd like a "Thor Helmet" style cameo. I would never want Brie's face covered for more than a few mins.

@JourneyIntoMystery - cap used his helmet in the entirety of civil war i think he only took it off on the quinjet

@Spock0Clock - I thought she required the helmet for space travel and brings it down when she's on a planet with a breathable atmosphere. If that's the case then having the helmet sometimes on but mostly not works really for me.

@Spock0Clock - Actually, I've heard that studios are swinging back towards liking masks and helmets, as it reduces the number of days that you need the actual star on set to shoot. As these films get bigger and more complex, it gives them a little more flexibility.

So I would not be at all surprised if Captain Marvel had something like Starlord's mask as part of her costume, which could be deployed or not depending on what they want to do.

@JourneyIntoMystery - She mostly uses it in space to the best of my knowledge. It'll make scheduling her easier in infinity war easier if she wears a mask

@auditore - That's a good point. AoU was pretty bad with having his helmet on but it looks like it'll be less of a problem now.

@Deonox - Yeah it should be easier than what they're gonna have to do with Dr. Strange.

@JourneyIntoMystery - he uses a lot on the solo movies only taking off after battles or for good reasons(trying to convince bucky, alien taking it off in the Avengers) but AOU was the worst with that he's in the middle of the battle then for no reason he takes it off

@McGee - Yeah, I prefer that one. I get why it's a no-go, but look at how they updated so many other costumes. Surely they can find a way to make the black suit work that won't offend.
CavalierTunes
CavalierTunes - 4/18/2017, 9:49 AM
@JumpRay - sure, by adding pants and sleeves, and making it look more military-like. They will never put Captain marvel in a bathing suit as a costume, no matter how updated it is. And rightfully so.
