Bleeding Cool have come across some
very interesting information about the status of the much talked about
Watchmen prequels. Before now, all we knew was that original artist Dave Gibbons (who will soon be working with Mark Millar and Matthew Vaughn on
The Secret Service) would be somehow involved in the sure to be controversial comics, despite writer Alan Moore having no interest in working on the project with DC. Well, here's an excerpt from a report the site have run, and you can find more by clicking on the link below.
I was told before New York Comic Con that it might be back on and that DC were drawing up a wishlist of creators for a series of Watchmen prequel comics.. Well, I’ve now heard a lot more. Darwyn Cooke’s name is at the very top, linked to drawing two mini-series and writing another, followed by the likes of JMS, JG Jones, Andy Kubert and Brian Azzarello. Whether or not they have been approached, I don’t know, and no one’s talking, but it gives you an idea of the scale. I would also expect Dave Gibbons and John Higgins to be involved in some way.
While I thought Zack Snyder's movie adaptation was fantastic, I've never been all that impressed by the original (and in my opinion, highly overrated) comic book series by Alan Moore. Now, I'm sure that's not something many of you will agree with, but it's for that reason I have absolutely no problem with new creators tackling the characters. After all, there's nothing stopping fans enjoying the original
Watchmen and ignoring these prequels altogether!
