VIDEO GAMES: Marvel Planning A "Secret Wars" Adaptation?

Marvel have copyrighted the name of the classic 1984 crossover for use in video game products and possibly even animation and live action purposes! Hit the jump for details...

Drawn from Earth across the stars, the Marvel Universe’s greatest villains and heroes are set against one another by the mysterious and unbelievably powerful Beyonder, with the winner promised the ultimate prize. But as battle lines are drawn, new alliances forged and old enemies clash, one among them is not willing to settle for anything less than godhood. Can even the combined might of the Avengers, Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four and the X-Men prevent Doctor Doom from becoming the most powerful being in the universe?

Silicon Era have spotted the fact that Marvel recently filed a trademark in relation to the title "Secret Wars" (the synopsis for which you can read above) for use in a video game format. Interestingly, it also mentions live action and animated televison or movie adaptations as well as merchandise!

However, I wouldnt bet on this having anything to do with The Avengers as the image above clearly shows that it's video game related more than anything else. Interestingly, it's worth noting that it was Marvel who filed the trademark for the series Marvel: Ultimate Alliance as well rather than publisher Activision. I wouldnt mind betting that this has something to do with the third installment of the popular video game franchise!

@ Gaston: It said it looks like that it'll be the 3rd installment in the Marvel: Ultimate Alliance series. I doubt Marvel would begin making a fighting game now after pumping so much into Marvel vs Capcom 3.

This would be so epic! Secret Wars still holds a place for me as one of my all time favorite stories, and of course Spidey's famous black and whites!

Good stuff Josh!

If they make this like Brutal Legend, where there is a free world adventure aspect AND a real time strategy strategy aspect, they would get my money so fast...

It could very well be "Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3". If it is, then they're gonna need to have strong everything (VA's, plot, play time, extras, etc.).

By the way, JoshW and everyone, check out my new fancast for a Fantastic Four movie franchise.

I would like to see this as a Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, and of course like @Gaston said it should had a Mortal Kombat Tournament style.
An Animation would be badass too!

i hope they base the 3rd MUA on Secret Wars but then again isn't Secret Wars how Spidey got the symbiote? i could be wrong. anyways i hope they do in depth and more detailed more action packed MUA. the last one was meh.

Marvel: Ultimate Alliance II was a pretty poor adaptation of "Civil War" (and wasnt that good as a game either) so if this does have something to do with a third installment, here's hoping it's a hell of a lot better! :) A whole new "Secret Wars" game would just be EPIC though especially if each level lets you play as a different hero or something.

I would like to see something like Batman: Arkham Asylum, God of War meets Marvels Secret Wars! Dark, gritty and great plot. You could play storyline missions and in live who ever you want!:) That would be awesome!

@JoshW

Agreed. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 was a huge disappointment, especially after the first one which was insanely awesome.

If they make a Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 that's based off Secret Wars, they better go back to the basics and keep it the same as the first one. That means more powers for each character, more characters available to play as, better cinematics, special dialogue between characters like in the first one, and more devotion to the overall story in the game.

As long as they DON'T take any pages from the book used to make MUA2, this game should be great.

"secret wars" is one of the best stories ever,i don't know about it the best ever.

but saying that i wouldn't mind seeing it adapted into a animated or video game form.

This would be great, as long as they keep the guys who made MUA2 away from it.

I'd love to see if Raven Software can come back and perfect the formula for this franchise that they started in the X-Men Legends series. Sadly, they're practically dead as a studio.

I would be happy to see another MUA game. As long as they have a variety of characters and multiple costumes like the first one then it would be great. About the only thing worth keeping from the second game is a second storyline. However, since Secret Wars were meant to be a test between good and evil, then they could have both hero and villain storylines with their own rosters for each. It would be great to fight as villains, and have heroes to fight in boss battles. I find it weird to fight as villains and heroes on the same team, however, they could combine the rosters for sim missions and maybe after finishing both storylines.

I think that Marvel Ent. Getting ahold of the games based on their comics is awesome. Its about time Marvel really started devloping a gaming department. DC has DCU Online, and like spiderman620 said, this could be Marvel's answer to it. Activison holds the rights to the MUA series. A Secret Wars game could be like MUA, but would not be a continuation of the series.
