Here it is, folks! What a way to start a Sunday morning, seeing the most iconic shield in comicdom. The shield was only displayed for two hours today, but I was there first thing when it was unveiled. It is definitely machined metal, approximately 1/2 inch thick with two very heavy leather carrying straps:

I would prefer white but I have worked with metal my entire life and I don't think there is any way to make the white look like anything other than plastic.

@DannRand: Yup I like the straps too

I totally understand why they did em like that too. It's so that Cap can wear the shield on his back. The straps are adjustable to two lengths. One length for use and one for wear.
