The Ten Best News Stories To Come Out Of The San Diego Comic Con 2011!

It may not have matched up to last year's event which saw The Avengers assemble for the first time, but there was still plenty of great news to come out of the event, and here are ten of the best...

Below is my take on the ten best stories to come out of this year Comic Con, so be sure to click on each of the links to check out the various reports, trailer and pictures in full. Anything I missed? Well, don't forget to share your thoughts below! Remember, you can find ALL of CBM's SDCC '11 coverage by clicking HERE and browsing through the various categories to see which of your favourite comic book characters were featured at the event.

10. First Look At The Avengers S.H.I.E.L.D Agents' Uniforms!

The Avengers may not have had the biggest of presences at the event this year, but we did get what is apparently our first glimpse of how the S.H.I.E.L.D agents will look in the upcoming movie. A faithful, yet realistic interpretation of the comic book uniforms, this is one more thing Joss Whedon has now put fans minds at ease with. Now, how about telling us who the villains are, eh?

9. The Walking Dead Panel Highlights; Four Minute Trailer Released!

AMC blew us all away with the trailer for season one of The Walking Dead at last years San Diego Comic Con, and didn't fail to deliver this year either. While we only get a very brief glimpse of Hershel and Maggie on the farm (well known to fans of Robert Kirkman's comic book series) there are enough intriguing plot hints and terrifying zombie action to get us all psyched for October 13th!

8. Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance Updates, Tagline Revealed

I'm not sure about you guys, but I was most definitely not looking forward to Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance with all the great comic book movies coming out in 2012. However, judging from what we learned at this panel, it may just end up being a fun way to kick off the year next February!

7. Marvel Studios Have Regained Rights To Blade; Clip From Agent Coulson Short Shown!

Last year, it was revealed that Marvel Studios had regained the rights to The Punisher. This year, Marvel's Chief Creative Officer let slip that the company also have Blade back in their midst. While there's no immediate plans to get these characters on the big screen, the more they have the better, and we can at least look forward to more fantastic adaptations at some point in the near future.

6. Highlights From Amazing Spider-Man Panel; Description Of New Footage And LIZARD!

We've heard quite a bit from stars Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, but this was finally a chance to get some info from director Marc Webb. While there was nothing TOO revealing let slip on the panel, it was the detailed footage descriptions which proved most interesting. Including the first details on the appearance of the Lizard, we now have a much better idea of the tone and humor in the upcoming movie, as well as much more.

5. Official Teaser Poster For The Avengers Hits With An Official Site Update!

Yeah, it's not exactly the most exciting of posters, but these teasers rarely are! While I'm sure most of us were hoping for an ensemble picture of the cast, wasn't it good to finally get an OFFICIAL poster after putting up with months and months of fan made efforts? Between this and the launch of the website, May 4th 2012 is getting closer and closer, with the next few months guaranteed to bring more great news, photos, posters and trailers!

4. Hugh Jackman Confirms The Villain For Wolverine 2

Since X-Men: First Class, many have regained faith in Fox, and The Wolverine is shaping up to be another crowd pleaser with fans. With filming set to begin in October, the news that Silver Samurai would be the main villain has been met with great approval, with anticipation at an all time high despite the departure of Darren Aronofsky as director.

3. The Avengers Assemble In Seven Stunning Character Posters!

-Captain America

-Iron Man

-Thor

-Hawkeye

-Black Widow

-Hulk

-Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D

"Avengers Assemble!" 'Nuff Said. :)

2. New Details On Hulk TV Series; Luke Cage & Carol Danvers Confirmed To Be In Jessica Jones TV Show!

Finally! While we'd already heard rumblings about some of these small screen projects, Marvel's Head of Television Jeph Loeb finally confirmed plans for A.K.A Jessica Jones, Cloak & Dagger and Hulk. The biggest surprise? Mockingbird! Four very different TV shows on the way from the comic book company, with the news that the first would also feature Luke Cage and Carol Danvers a huge bonus!

1. First (Low-Res) Look At 'The Lizard' From The Amazing Spider-Man!

As soon as descriptions of the Lizard hit, there was a mixed reaction from fans. Sounding like a scalier version of The Incredible Hulk's Abomination, many were concerned we'd not be getting anywhere a faithful version of the iconic Stan Lee and Steve Ditko creation. And then these low-res pictures hit, and how freaking awesome does he look? We won't be able to tell for definite until we get some decent shots, but it looks like this is yet another part of The Amazing Spider-Man that director Marc Webb has nailed.

Considering I miss the con this year, there has been some cool news reported, but in my opinion...no "wow" moments this year. SDCC has become completely overrated. I Had been going to the con for 10 years (miss a year or two) and I'm happy that they've expanded as much as they have. But now it's more about pop culture than anything related to the field of comics.

That's a pretty good list of the BEST news stories. One has to think that the BIGGEST story was Warner Bros./DC pushing back the release date of Man of Steel from December 2012 to June 2013. I was really looking forward to having a big blockbuster Superhero movie NOT being in the summer. Why do studios hardly ever do that?

To be fair to Josh Wilding this is comicbookmovie.com. Marvel had more movie news Dc more comic news.Maybe next year if Warner gets more then one movie a year out.
HelaGood
HelaGood - 7/25/2011, 3:46 PM
@m1312020 DC/Warner Bros. has only twice released more than one DC comic book movie in a single year:

1989--"The Return of Swamp Thing" and "Batman"
1997--"Batman & Robin" and "Steel"

they have been having trouble lately with just one DC film a year so don't hold your breath for more than one anytime soon...

HelaGood
HelaGood - 7/25/2011, 3:48 PM
...and if you want to count these non-DC properties as well, be my guest:

2005--"Constantine" and "V for Vendetta"

m1312020 - 7/25/2011, 4:07 PM
@HelaGood Constantine was created in DC superhero universe and is back in the Dc superhero universe with Swamp Thing this year.In I said if they get more then one comic book movie.By the way Vertigo is Dc its just where Karen berger put her mature titles.

Good article, but all it does is showcase how lacklustre SDCC'11 was compared with last year's smorgasbord of reveals.

Even Rhys Ifans thought so.

I voted for the posters. Hardly a big deal for a live event, like having all the cast walk out on stage, or exclusive tentpole trailers. No, just painted posters...

Repetitive list much?

The Avengers posters are very cool, but I'm happy to hear Blade is back in Marvel's corner. I would love to see an anthology type Midnight Sons movie with Dr. Strange, Blade, and Werewolf by Night. Three tales that all tie in together for a big finale. Too bad Marvel doesn't have the Ghost Rider rights, because he would be a perfect addition to such a tale.

If Marvel could get Daredevil's rights back... now that would be a big story.
HelaGood
HelaGood - 7/26/2011, 9:18 AM
@m1312020 yes i know, but i was speaking literally straight DC properties as movies. and Constantine/Hellblazer was a Vertigo comic when it was a film.
m1312020
m1312020 - 7/26/2011, 7:13 PM
@HelaGood I look at them all still as DC properties. The problem I have to say is there not DC superheroes where dc is failing, and hopefully get their act together with. It's not impossible just can't see it now.

I can see WB maybe getting hawkman and flash right,Both don't require major budgets and are more grounded characters, but after green lantern I can't see WB doing aquaman are Wonder Woman justice. My opinon.I hope WB proves me wrong
