Ewan McGregor Now Rumored For DOCTOR STRANGE

With Joaquin Phoenix bowing out of contention, a new potential candidate for the leading role in Marvel Studios' much-awaited Doctor Strange has been revealed to be Star Wars' Ewan McGregor!

Since Joaquin Phoenix is no longer in the mix for the lead role in the forthcoming Doctor Strange adaptation, it's now being reported that Ewan McGregor is vying for the part. Apparently, multiple sources have informed Badass Digest that the Scottish actor, who's best known for his role as the Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi in the original Star Wars trilogy, is definitely being looked at by Marvel Studios and that he's "been prepping for the role; doing the usual research actors do when looking at taking on an adaptation or existing character." As usual, take this potential contender for Marvel's Sorcerer Supreme with the grain of salt for the time being, but the 43-year-old's most recent visual effects-heavy venture is Bryan Singer's Jack the Giant Slayer. What do you think?

Other actors reportedly on Marvel Studios' wishlist include Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Hardy, and Jared Leto, while actor Keanu Reeves recently stated that he will be reaching out to his agent given several reporters have recently informed him that he's a fan-favorite to play Dr. Stephen Strange.
Directed by Scott Derrickson, and scripted by Jon Spaihts, Doctor Strange is set for release in 2016.

He was my original choice for Hank Pym. Don't really see him as Doctor Strange though.

Not a bad choice. Probably the best part of the Pre-Sequels. He's a bit old but still not old enough for me to really make a fuss about... I'd like it if he they cast someone a bit younger though.

If they cast people in their mid 40's by the time they are in a second film they could be in their 50's. I'd like to put off the eventual Bonding until it's absolutely necessary.

@Highflyer too scottish for Pym IMO.

Look, the bottom line is, I don't feel very strongly abut "Oh it MUST be this guy!"

There are plenty of options I would be more than okay with, McGregor, Cumberbatch, Hawke, Leto, Luke Evans, even Keanu Reeves. I think they are all capable of bringing whatever is needed to the table for a character called "Doctor Strange".

As long as they don't announce someone like Adam Sandler...I think I'll be good with whoever they go with.

Nonetheless, if this casting really does come to fruition I'd be ecstatic with it!

@MrBlackJack yet we eat up all the info they give us about Avengers 2 and beyond...

make up your mind!

badass digest is legit, not 100% since plans are always fluid and things change, but they're just as reliable as TheWrap, Variety, THR (and these latter two never even credit TheWrap or Badass Digest when they report on casting news)

Wouldn't mind him as Strange

It's too bad Phoenix passed on the role. I'd still like someone in their early to late 30's though. But you do what you have to do I guess.

They probably doing their low-balling tactics again.

but on the actual topic i would rather have ewan mecgregor for ant man. Although id be fine with him as strange. This just seems like a hard property for them to cast lol.
