GHOST RIDER: SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE Screens At "Butt-Numb-A-Thon"; First Impressions Not Good

Those lucky enough to be in attendance of Harry Knowles' annual "Butt-Numb-A-Thon" were shown Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance and the reaction has not been good, with everything from the story to 3D effects heavily criticized.

When the directing duo of Neveldine/Taylor were hired to helm Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, the reaction was mixed. After all, they are responsible for the likes of Crank and Gamer. However, the first trailer took everyone by surprise with what looked like a fun and action packed take on the Marvel character a million times better than the awful 2007 version. Sadly, it would appear that we got out hopes up for nothing. Several attendees of the "Butt-Numb-A-Thon" have Tweeted their reaction after seeing the movie and it's clear to see that the overall response is not a good one.

Butt-Numb-A-Thon (also known as BNAT) is an annual film marathon held every December since 1999 in Austin, Texas. It is hosted by Harry Knowles of the Ain't it Cool News website in celebration of his birthday. This mini-festival shows 24 hours of vintage films as well as premieres. The marathon is invite-only via an application process. Competition to get in is fierce, as 10,000 or more applicants attempt to gain one of the approximately 200 seats. This system was put into place to ensure that only die-hard film fans would be in attendance as well as to be fair, as attendance is limited to the seating capacity of the Alamo Drafthouse. It makes the first film look like The Dark Knight? Wow, that bad eh?
I'll wait before I see it to judge, but my expectations have just been cut in half.

Guess it's a Netflix for me. Biggest thing they should've done is got rid of Cage. Second, thing they should've done is kept it dark and serious.

As grif would say, "Bring on the reboot."

Welp. I can now go into this with super-low expectations and hopefully get blown away even if it's sub-par.

I don't see how they can make it worse than the first...I'm sure they'll show me though.

it's hard to believe it will be so bad. I understand not to be a good movie, but gr2 makes gr1 look like tdk? hard to believe the huge gap

Quite upset by this,

I found the first entertaining and have since tried to defend it to the best of my abilities.

I was looking forward to a sequel and when I heard the plot I thought crap we're back to square one and the directing team backed up my fears.

Then the trailer came out and I thought YEAH BUDDY, HERE WE GO!
and now this......FML

The first film was one of the worst CBMs I've seen, good effects/action but everything else was vomit. The SOV trailer looked leaps and bounds better than the entirety of its predecessor, so I'm surprised to hear that it could be worse (It's impossible to be Batman & Robin or Catwoman bad nowadays).

I wonder sometimes how film makers must feel when they screen a film to an audience only to hear massive amounts of laughter in all the wrong places. I would suppose it would be much the same as having everyone gasp in horror at your new born baby.

While I don't usually place my expectations on reviews of a film, these leave little room for hope. What a shame.

I hated the first. To be fair it was mainly because I can't stand horseface Cage. But the t raiser looked high octane, a better rep of Ghost Rider and slightly more badass...even if it did have Camel tooth Cage mumbling his way through the dialogue.

I'm not surprised by the reactions but I disappointed. I wanted to be wrong.

I'm gonna go drown my sorrows at Tea's party...sorry, butt-numb-athon

as soon as the directors said they didn't read abotu the villain in the comic book and just liked his looks, I knew this was doomed

Did anybody really care about this film? Like seriously, TASM and TDKR are the only things we need to care about. That's right. I didn't mention Avengers, if I want an overrated action movie about a team of B-List superheroes fighting off an alien army, I'll let you know :p
