Nicholas Cage Based His Portrayal Of GHOST RIDER On His Pet Cobra

While doing press for Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance Nicholas Cage, who actually did the motion capture work as Ghost Rider this time around, talked about getting help on how The Rider moves from an unusual pet of his.

Nicholas Cage sat down with Digital Spy to talk about Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. It is now known that unlike the previous film Cage did the motion capture work for The Rider as well. He based his performance from an unlikely source too, his pet cobra. Cage said that the way the Cobra moves back and forth and hypnotizes its prey is the same types of movements he wanted to incorporate into his presentation of Ghost Rider. He also said that he wanted Ghost Rider to have a dignity that Johnny Blaze didn't have with him and director Brian Taylor comparing him to a Pharaoh.

Nicolas Cage returns as Johnny Blaze in Columbia Pictures' and Hyde Park Entertainment's Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. In the successor to the worldwide hit Ghost Rider, Johnny still struggling with his curse as the devil's bounty hunter is hiding out in a remote part of Eastern Europe when he is recruited by a secret sect of the church to save a young boy (Fergus Riordan) from the devil (Ciarn Hinds). At first, Johnny is reluctant to embrace the power of the Ghost Rider, but it is the only way to protect the boy and possibly rid himself of his curse forever.

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance stars Nicolas Cage, Johnny Whitworth, Fergus Riordan, Ciarán Hinds, Violante Placido, Idris Elba, Christopher Lambert, and will be released on February 17, 2012.

This is quite inspiring! I'm touched from tue loving animal bond between Cage and his cobra (sounds like that could be a movie). I have been inspired to know learn fight moves from my pet hedgehog. :')

I think Nic Cage is a brilliant actor that's made 90% bad movie choices. I still think this movie would have had a better chance without him tho.

A new Ghost Rider movie + that ISN'T a remake + with the same actor = Stupid.

Am I the only one excited for this??

At least they're trying to make something better than the first one. All the CBMs get crammed into the summer, it's nice to have something to go see in the middle of the winter while we wait for the more anticipated movies. I'm not going into this with Avenger or TDKR expectations, I just want to be entertained. The crazier the Cage, the better for this movie and these directors IMO.

More than half of you talking negatively about this movie will be in the theater this weekend watching it.

That's cool that he's looking into all sorts of sources including animals to enhance his performance, but really why would anyone own such a dangerous animal as a cobra?! That thing is not only. A wild animal, but a poisonous one at that. I've heard many stories where snakes who are owned as pets end up getting loose, and a loose cobra is not something you want roaming around the house.

.....also when he did Leaving Las Vegas I remember him saying he got his cobra drunk as inspiration for the role, classic Cage!!

Say what you want about Nic Cage but the guy is a true actor. Actors draw inspiration for their characters from unusual places, like how Johnny Depp's inspiration for Captain Jack Sparrow was Keith Richards from the Rolling Stones. This cobra thing has actually piqued my interest for this movie a little more.

@bropous, i like Nic Cage too and thought i should post to support what ur saying. I dont bash on ppl who like what they like, thats what makes life great, everyone has different oppinions and likes. I know a lot of ppl on this site dont like Cage and i am fine with that, i enjoy a lot of his movies and dont care what others think. Looking forward to this movie. Kind of funny he has a pet cobra though, if i wake up a few years from now to an article saying Nic Cage was bitten by a cobra, i wont be so confused:)

Ooookay? That is cool that hes putting so much thought into his character, but a cobra? I thought Ghost Rider was a spirit of vengence? Wouldnt a pit bull or a shark be more appropriate? Cage is a strange man.

On the other hand... the penance stare is kinda of hypnotic so I can see where he's coming from. Could be cool dunno until I see it so I cant really bash it.

We will see.

wow, i think nic has finally completely lost his mind, but hey, crazy actors are pretty entertaining. so ill shrug it off and just see what happens. now as for the movie, i don't have high expectations for it because of the first one, but ill catch it when it comes on tv in a year or so.
