VIDEO: Nostalgia Critic's Review of GHOST RIDER 2: SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE

For a film just slightly better than Mark Steven Johnson's 2007 bore-igin story (named 'Worst CBM of the Decade' by IGN) the makers of Crank 2: High Voltage at least tried to have theirs end up on several 'worst of' lists. Now the only thing that stands between you and hitting the jump, is Nic Cage - and he's scraping at the door!

What did you think? Let me know down in the comments! Seriously, the soundcard on my laptop is broken and I couldn't watch it - was this a funny episode or not? And as an added bonus, below is his review of the 1st Ghost Rider, but I bet you'd probably rather FORGET how much these movies failed, than relive them back-to-back with their flaws scrutinized in meticulous detail, wouldn't you? Good, I'm glad to have talked you out of doing something you might later regret, something just marginally worse than a movie made by Brian Taylor and Mark Neveldine (Pictured above: as two pizza delivery guys who used to be in a band called System of a Down.)

SOV makes the '07 film look like a masterpiece. When I saw this movie, twenty minutes in I asked my friends if this was a joke and thus treated the film as a comedy for the rest of it - we had quite a few laughs. But honestly ive never witnessed more inept directing in my life.

The Ghost Rider movies are some of the worst trash in existence.

@Jollem

Yeah exactly! Crank especially since they worked with no budget. SOV is what I think of as a good example of making a low budget superhero film awesome. A better script would be good but I was more than pleased with what I got.

This movie feels like Sony gave millions of dollars to two dumb rednecks and told them to make a Ghost Rider movie in their backyard.

It's boring. The visual effects look like they came out of a video game. The story makes no sense. The editing and the camerawork feels like it was made only for people with ADD. You care nothing for the characters or anything that is going on.

In fact, I would argue it's worse than the first movie.

Wait, "For a film only slightly better than Mark Steven Johnson's 2007 bore-igin story"?! You honestly thought the sequel was better? I mean, that's your opinion, so I respect it, but I completely disagree. The first was bad, but you could at least see what they were trying to achieve. It had a simple narrative, a three act structure, was reasonably accessible, and had a few good action scenes. The second is just... I don't even know. That zany editing style pointed out in the video, where they dramatically fast forward through everything is just horrible. Nicolas Cage stopped playing anything that even nearly resembled Johnny Blaze, and just went nuts. While in most other films I'd give credit for allowing the actor to motion capture the CG character, with Ghost Rider it has the opposite effect. Ghost Rider becomes less a spirit of vengeance and more just Nicolas Cage if his head was a skull. And while the first wasn't exactly the most faithful film, the second was just pissing on the comics. Anyone remember the directors saying they literally just looked at an image of Blackout, without reading up on his character or anything, said he looked cool and wrote their own thing?
