Speaking with
Total Film, director Jon Chu discusses
G.I. Joe: Retaliation, a sequel to the 2009 action film
Rise Of Cobra. Chu says that he and Stephen Sommer (who directed the critically panned
Cobra) are very different in their approaches to
G.I. Joe, while he also comments on the reality of the characters and how much CGI is used.
“We’re [me and Sommer] different filmmakers and have different views on what G.I. Joe is.”
“I love the reality of our Joes. They have relationships with each other, aspirations; they care about the people of the world. We’re trying to add a lot more of that rather than doing cartoon fights with laser guns: everything is very practical and we’re doing as many physical things as possible – it’s not all greenscreen.”
In other
Joe news, the
G.I. Joe Club have found the following packaging for the Cobra Commander action figure in the film's toy line. The packaging features new promo art of Dwayne Johnson's Roadblock and Ray Park's Snake Eyes. Check it out below:
G.I. Joe: Retaliation also stars Channing Tatum, Adrianne Palicki, D.J. Cotrona, Ray Stevenson and Bruce Willis, and is set to be released June 29th.
