Since Martin Campbell's live action Green Lantern comic adaptation began filming in March, fans have been eager to catch any glimpse of their favorite ring-slinging characters who will appear in the movie. Last month's Entertainment Weekly magazine gave us our first look at the film's stars Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Angela Bassett and Tim Robbins. Though Green Lantern isn't hitting theaters until next summer, with a massive marketing campaign beginning as early as February, we can now start an earlier countdown for the next "big reveal." This time around, you'll have to visit your local comic book shop to see it:

GREEN LANTERN #59

BRIGHTEST DAY blazes on as the New Guardians seeking the Indigo Entity are shocked to discover a sedated Black Hand. Can Hal Jordan trust the Indigo Tribe to house the herald of Nekron?

Plus, another exclusive first look at a member of the GREEN LANTERN CORPS from 2011's live-action GREEN LANTERN film!

Written by GEOFF JOHNS; Art and cover by DOUG MAHNKE and CHRISTIAN ALAMY; 1:10 Variant cover available. On Sale October 27, 2010

It's a pretty sure bet the filmmakers have already selected which character will appear in the issue; but if it were your choice, which would you pick?

Seriously, compare the history of the yellow ring vs. the green. Then compare the..what? Nine months since we've seen a different color? Sick of all the obsession over the different colors.

Anyway, I wanna seeeee...Bzzd!

I've known about this for some time. I hope all the members look like Ivan Reis' rendition in some way.

yeap agreed. the whole color corps are too far out in the stories. there's much more stories to adapt. hell they even need to bring the other earth GLs at some time. then they can do a Green Lantern Corps spin-off movie with guy n kyle as hononary members

I want Bzzd! He's the best! I love him, especially for what he did in Mogo and what he did to Mongul! That was awesome!!

And please stop with the "Oh I hope, other colors will come in" THEY WONT!!! The other colors were just made for the Blackest Night, and thats it! Im tired of hearing this for the movies and for the DCUO game! IT WONT HAPPEN!! Theres 60 plus years of GL comics to go through first!!

Now they got me all excited. Great. I'm guessing either Tomar-Re or Sinestro. Could be someone else entirely. I'm eager to find out. Bring it on baby!

Hopefully I'll be up to date with GL comics by then so I'll be able to pick it up! And hopefully, whoever it is will look better than Kilowog! :P

I must say I am not the greatest fan of all the other color spectrums but its okay in the comics so long they dont rush it out onto the big screens. Green and Yellow should be the only colors or it will just be too many and too cheezy. CANT WAIT ANYHOW TO NEXT SUMMER!

BMP!!!

I wouldn't mind seeing the entire emotional spectrum down the line. Not within the first three movies though. If they were to put another color into the mix, i'd hope it'd be violet so we can see some Ivan Reis style star sapphire.
Photobucket
But if they did show the rest of the corps it would have to be set up through the first three movies REALLY well for it to work. But i wouldn't mind seeing the Geoff Johns run made into a series of movies.
two trilogies...
first three dealing with Hal Jordan's intro,. the sequel being The fall of Sinestro, the destruction of Coast city and hal becoming parallax at the end. then rebirth and Sinestro corp war in one.
follow those with the war of the light saga.

My guess is Kilowog for who they reveal. Also I don't understand all the hate for the other color corps sure it would be a lot to explain in a trilogy but God i'd love to see a live action Larfleeze played by Steve Busemi.

Would anyone really be upset or put off if they featured the War of Light? It's too campy? Come on, it's all campy! If it was executed properly I'm sure all of the fans and fanboys would totally coo l with the idea.

I think there are certainly more important stories and material to show first, and we have a pretty good idea what they're going to do with the first three film, but like it or not, all the decisions come down to money. If the Warners execs say, "hey everyone loves the current GL run, we'd like to see it on-screen," who do you think wins? The execs.

I really think the Blackest Night could be covered in a two movie arch and be done properly.

I wouldn't count it out.

I know but since it was a leak I think they will officially reveal him first.

But if WB will release a CGI cartoon featuring Red Lanterns, even non-related to the movie, that must have Star Saphire on the next instalment, we will possibly have at least FOUR color corps: Green, Yellow, Violet and Red.

Which almost suggest that there are indeed SEVEN colors of corps, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Violet.

Otherwise, SEVEN colors melding together gives us White, and all that absorbed makes Black, so bring WAR OF LIGHT (2013) on second film and BLACK NIGHT / BRIGHTEST DAY on the third one (2016), to end a Trilogy.

When he said a Marketing campaign beginning in Feb. that means guess what most likely.........

Super Bowl Spot

Think about it, what is the most watched television event in the US.....Super Bowl. What is one of if not the most watched television event in the World....Super Bowl (Maybe with the exception of a World Cup year, maybe)

For those who dont know, the Super Bowl is the first real time that studios can showcase their upcoming summer releases for television and marketing more than the theaters and show it to the general public. Granted, I bet the first GL trailer will be shown during Harry Potter in November, but with the massive amount of big summer movies, WB will likely pay 2 million for the 30 second spot for GL (They wont for Harry Potter, doesnt need it). I am sure Disney will for Pirates 4 (They did for the second one) and Paramount will fork it all over for Thor, Cap, and Transformers (They showed the first Transformers 2 preview during the Super Bowl, they showed Iron Man but not Iron man 2).

So expect the marketing campaign to start in Feb. like @pietro said to begin with the Super Bowl.

I guess I will have to DVR it, my plan is to go to it this year since it is being played where I live this year.

Re: The article, this is a REALLY smart marketing move for DC. Anything that helps a few extra comics move off the shelves is a great thing. This move alone should make GL the top selling book of August. Brillian idea!!!

As for the color spectrum, it' not cheesy. It's an amazing concept but we don't really need it in the movie. There will be lots of time and opportunity to explore it in the animated series! It'll work better there where you have more time and episodes to fill. It's too much for a live action movie trilogy.

hey that reminds me... i've been going through my old comics looking at kilowogs. and since my last post identified two things i thought made this guy look "human," i'll now note the two things i think make him look "not kilowog."

(1) whoever mentioned the lowered ears is 100% right. this may not have worked onscreen, but the high ears in the comics square off his head and raise his forehead, making him look more intelligent.

(2) this is the big one:

the adjustment to the dactylate mouth is not as simple as the widening of the lip area. the projections were SWITCHED and now the LOWER ONES ARE INSIDE THE UPPER. (it was the same in the original concept art).

that SEEMS like it's nbd, but the brain works in a specific way: we "see" from the inside (center of the face) to the outside... and as we go we look for identifiable features to help us recognize, or, if we can't recognize, then categorize. so the result of the switch is to shift our subliminal perception from triggering images of "upper fangs and lower tusks" to "lower tusks and upper jowls."

conclusion: whoever it was that said the designers wanted to make him look more doglike—and thus [perhaps] more appealing and lovable—gets a gold star. i know claybo noted it but there was someone else too! anyway i think that assessment hit the nail on the head.

@alternate copy and paste it over to the other one LOL. I guess cause the articles are close to each other you got confused.

good idea claybo thanks

looks like halik might be right... WB asked for that kilowog picture to be removed, so i guess that could mean they're saving it for the reveal. (although probably they would have asked for it to be removed anyway!)

I wouldn't mind seeing Arisia. If I remember correctly, she and Hal once had a fling. Might make for a good side story on the whole Hal-Carol ordeal.

@necrosage - G'nort might be a good addition. But C'hp? I'm not too sure. Possible, yes, but it'd almost be like introducing the whole 7 different corps in one movie. It might be a bit too much for non-comic readers to take in one go.
Casinoskunk
Casinoskunk - 8/10/2010, 9:49 AM
Didn't they say we were going to see all 3,600 lanterns? I imagine it would be a huge finale shot, which has to include Mogo. I would prefer Ch'p over G'nort.

G'Nort is LAME.
GLFanboy
GLFanboy - 8/10/2010, 10:06 AM
@Casino Yes, I would be just fine if they happened to overlook G'nort entirely in these movies! Ch'p BIG yes! G'nort BIG no!
And yeah, that huge shot at the end is gonna be awesome! Can't wait to get a still of that shot and play Where's Waldo with all the lanterns!
AlternateNo4
AlternateNo4 - 8/10/2010, 10:10 AM
@glfanboy—love them bonus points... but what can i spend em on?

@protonite—they'd have to change arisia's character a bit... when she started out the whole point was that she was supposed to be like 12 years old. then some writer had a pedophile fantasy and retconned her into being like 250 years old so she and hal could hook up. i always thought it was pretty transparently creepy.
