A Former Superman May Have Tested For GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Lead Role

While we don't know who it is exactly yet, an actor who has previously played the Man Of Steel is said to have tested for the role of Peter Quill/Star-Lord in Marvel Studios' space epic Guardians Of The Galaxy.

Another day, another candidate for the lead role of Guardians Of The Galaxy. This week, we heard that the latest actors to be in the mix for the role of Star-Lord are Joseph Gordon-Levitt (The Dark Knight Rises), Michael Rosenbaum (Smallville), and John Krasinski (The Office). And before that, we heard multiple names connected to the part, including Zero Dark Thirty's Joel Edgerton and Thor: The Dark World's Zachary Levi. Now, Moviehole has tweeted that yet another actor may have tested for the role of Peter Quill, and while it doesn't say who exactly, it reveals that a former Superman is on the "huge" shortlist.

Of course, this "former Superman" is most likely either Brandon Routh (who played the Man Of Steel in 2006's Superman Returns) or Tom Welling (who starred as Clark Kent in The CW's Smallville). Interestingly, Welling was rumored to be up for the role of Dr. Strange last year, but that ended up being debunked. With all of these actors testing for the Star-Lord role, fingers crossed we get an official announcement soon. Who do you think should play Peter Quill?

Guardians Of The Galaxy is set to hit theaters August 1st, 2014.

Hopefully it's Brandon Routh. The guy deserves another shot.

I pray to God that it isn't Tom Welling.

Brandon Ruth doesn't look the part to me... Welling does, but I don't know if he is good actor, charismatic enough for the part.

If dean Cain isn't too old he gets my vote. I loved Lois and Clark

Brandon Routh is not a terrible choice. But I would much prefere JGL as Star-Lord.

Let's just hope they have the sense to say no to whoever this 'former Superman' is. But, how do we know he isn't misreporting Michael Rosenbaum being on the shortlist, since Rosenbaum was in a Superman related project.

@ManofSuperguy maybe Welling should sit on Routh's shoulders so they get the height right!

@Manofsuperguy, correct on all counts on the actors who played Superman. The only one not on the list was the first Superman, Bud Collier who portrayed him on the radio series.
I've seen Dean Cain recently and he seems to still be in shape and a decent actor. He gets my vote.

I think it's Routh and not Welling. It says from someone who has recently worked with him. Welling seems to have taken a break from show business, having not been in a project since Smallville ended in the spring of 2011.

I like Routh and think he would be a good choice. The failure of Superman Returns was not his, he was a great Clark Kent/Superman. And I think he would make an excellent Peter Quill.

I didn't mind Superman Returns, Routh does an excellent Christopher Reeve impersonation. In the interest of being fair, he was pretty funny as Todd in Scott Pilgrim too. But he's not really leading man material, and he's not that great at acting.

Hey guys, stop bashing Routh, Welling and Cain for a moment.

Former Superman includes animated series and films, so just for giggles lets add two actors that you all seem to have forgotten;

George Newburn- voiced Superman for three years on Justice League

Adam Baldwin- voiced Superman for the DC Universe film Superman: Doomsday and for you gamers, he also voices Superman in DC Universe Online.

So just food for thought guys...

Oh no say it isn't so...did my fellow comic book/tv geeks forget a Whedon alum?

Adam Baldwin also played Jayne Cobb in Firefly.

Now then, I am waiting for one of your heads to explode

@DukeAcureds Scott Pilgrim reference! WOOT!

I can be Quill if I want to, I'm a rock star.

I'm thinking Adam Baldwin would be good in that role, and most likely to have been screen-tested.

Maybe Whedon recommended him?
