In a revealing facebook post, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn states that the trailer for Guardians won't be debuting in front of the Super Bowl. Stating:

"We're saving Rocket for our second Nebula, which won't be out for a couple months."

Which probably means that the trailer will either debut before Captain America: The Winter Solider on in front of it.

Daaaaaammit! And damn son, the Super Bowl is the most watched thing in te US every year. And god knows Marvel has the money for it. Stupid move. And I agree with @Jollem dont pick one guy to be the poster boy, especially not GotG.

He made this comment on instagram. It's related to a nebula picture called God's hand something, and he claimed (jokingly) that Disney paid for it.

I respect that. James Gunn is an artist. I do want this movie to be a success so he'd better advertise like a mother[frick]er.

@JordanKing

Exactly. Gunn is a funny dude, he's writing this to MENTION HIS MOVIE COMING IN A COUPLE MONTHS.

Nice job Nicholas Pavoni (not really)

The article poster has misunderstood. Please take this down. It's confusing a lot of us yet you didn't read the context behind Gunn's comment

The thing about promoting this movie is that the first trailer needs to be long enough that it doesn't confuse the audience, who know nothing about these characters. A short teaser is great for fans, but probably just very bewildering for the general audience. So if they do a Super Bowl ad, it needs to be long enough that it's effective. On the other hand they also have to promote Cap.

Gunn has stated that he wants the trailer to be perfect when people see it. The audience size means nothing if the film looks genuinely shit.

Yeah... putting out a half-assed trailer to appease the whiney-ass, entitled fanboys--who would then tear it apart for being half-assed--isn't going to get him anywhere.

Yea 0mega, I watched that Super Bowl at a bar and people went wild when the Avengers ad came on.
I hope they do something. Maybe a clever teaser that just puts the name out there without details. That "what a bunch of a-holes" bit might do.

I don't mind them not releasing anything during the Super Bowl. I love the game but spending such a ridiculous amount of money for a 30 second spot seems foolhardy.

I think James is just joking around with us. I believe and will remain optimistic and hopeful that we will get our first look at Guardians during the Super Bowl. And, to prove it, I sent a letter to Bob Iger 30 days before the Super Bowl. So, that should help. I'm also sending him 2 letters to him tomorrow. Two letters (one original letter and a copy of the letter) to recommend to Iger to give Guardians an early world premiere at Disneyland about 4 weeks before release on 4th of July weekend or at Comic-Con to kick off a possible 3.5 hour Marvel Studios panel on Saturday, July 19th, an early international release for GOTG about 10-11 days before the film's US release to give it a chance to make 1 billion worldwide, and a wide release in 4,444 theaters along with an IMAX 3-D expansion to give it a record-breaking opening which will include widest release for a Marvel Studios film to help GOTG make 1 billion dollars worldwide.
