RUMOR: Karen Gillan's GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Mystery Villain Role Revealed

A newspaper clipping has possibly revealed that Doctor Who alum Karen Gillian is playing an angelic being in Guardians of the Galaxy who is practically new to the Marvel Universe. Check it out!

Former Doctor Who star Karen Gillan was reported last month to be joining the stacked ensemble cast of Guardians of the Galaxy, though her lead villain role in the James Gunn-directed film was kept under wraps. Speculation has since been rampant about who the Scottish actress might be playing, but rumor has it Gillan's character hasn't even appeared in any Marvel Comics pages, yet.

According to a Glasgow, Scotland newspaper clipping via the NeoGAF forums, Karen Gillan is playing "Angela, a flame-haired, sword-wielding, bounty hunter" in Guardians of the Galaxy. "Karen will be stunning as the chief female villain of the movie," reads a quote from the Scottish paper's supposed "Marvel insider." "But she will have her work cut out as the role involves a lot of physical workouts and with a costume as revealing, she will have to be in top shape."

Angela originally debuted in Image Comics' Spawn series, created by writer Neil Gaiman and artist Todd McFarlane. But Gaiman was confirmed in March to be returning to Marvel Comics, bringing the character with him. While her introduction to the Marvel Universe is slated for Age of Ultron later this year, Angela will appear in some issues of the relaunched Guardians of the Galaxy series. That, of course, makes the possibility of actress Karen Gillan playing the angelic bounty hunter in the film seem plausible. However, until filming commences in the U.K. later this month and the cast is officially announced, consider the claims by the newspaper another rumor. What do you think?

Starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Michael Rooker, Ophelia Lovibond, John C. Reilly, Enzo Cilenti, Lee Pace, Karen Gillan and Glenn Close with Benicio Del Toro, Guardians of the Galaxy is written & directed by James Gunn, and is set to be released in theaters on August 1, 2014.

even if this is true, the idea that the costume would be revealing is laughable. it is a Disney made movie, there is no way in hell they give a female character the comic version of their suits.

I've read alotta Spawn back in the day.... Read a ton of GOTG too... Angela does not fit in the universe whatsoever. But I like this Gillian chick. She's cute and decent at acting. That being said, I can't see Angela being in this film. A demonic, medieval looking chick in a sci-fi epic? No...

That's like putting Conan in Star Wars... It's just [frick]ing weird and disrupts the setting and tone.

That chick from John Carter had barely any clothing, and that was a Disney film.

The comic book costume is too sexy for a Disney production.

Miklonus, you must know nothing about any of those franchises if you assume any of them is lackluster or that they aren't as great as bigger names, don't underestimate anyone, ever, I bet marvel will execute all these ideas perfectly and in a way that will interest all of us. All these "lesser" franchises have something to offer, and frankly if we only saw "household" names at the movies it would have gotten SOOOOOOOO boring by now.

Its insane that Marvel cannot get their properties back so they can create films with them,Spider-Man & X-Men belong in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Disney needs to get some pressure on those other studios & somehow get those characters back..I mean how long is the contract for? As long as they keep using them in movies?
When will it end? Shame.

This is a rumor. I could sense it.

^GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY being a lackluster idea? LMAO. Why, cause the GOTG aren't in the A-list class of popularity with the general public as far as Superheroes are concerned? You must not know much about them then or what Marvel Studios is capable of.

Unless Spawn is part of the MCU, this is a stupid ass idea.

Speaking of Spawn, how is that Spawn movie going Todd? You said you had an Oscar winning actor interested in it.

You and I agree and think the same on a lot on things, but I disagree with you on this. I remember about August of last year I read a log line/synopsis, that read this

"A U.S. pilot who ends up in space in the middle of a universal conflict and goes on the run with futuristic ex-cons who have something everyone wants."

Now this is pure speculation but if this character is a Bounty hunter...and the futuristic ex cons are the Guardians...then that makes perfect sense.

She is obviously sent to go after the Guardians, and if the main male antagonist is Ronan the Accuser, then he works too since he basically rules the Kree and is sent on missions often...missions usually dealing with unordinary things happening in the galaxy.

So them two make perfect villians on my opinion but only time will tell.

"it is a Disney made movie"

It's actually not, it's a Marvel Studios movie. Disney makes money from it, and is distributing, but that doesn't make it a Disney production. Disney has owned MANY other studios, and never made them kid friendly. Touchstone is the only one I can think of, but they also owned Miramax.

They're smart because they acquire these properties, but don't put mouse ears on everything. They simply profit from what that company was already doing.

Karen is about six foot. Her body is insane and she's a talented, beautiful actress.
She is PERFECT for a comicbook female character.

I wish she was playing an already established character tho!

Yeah, that sounds completely ridiculous. I mean what'll they think of next, mythical Norse Warrior Gods that travel through outer space on rainbows? Oh, wait...

@Batmaniac

"I also know enough about Marvel Studios to know they don't mind butchering characters for a cheap twist or using a whole movie as a bridge to a team up."

All of which worked successfully for Marvel. Iron Man 3 is now Marvel's most successful movie only behind the Avengers. As for Iron Man 2, well that was the only movie in Phase One to get a sequel. It showed that their shared cinematic universe was more than just a gimmick. A great use of that movie to help the Avengers which whose success was far from assured at the time.

@TheRealRemyLebeau

*Thumbs up*
