MTV Geek caught up with J. Michael Straczynski for an exclusive interview regarding his current project of penning a feature film for Valiant Comics Shadowman. Valiant is hoping to bring out their wide array of comic bok characters to the movie-going audience much like Marvel and DC have done. Valiant CEO Jason Kothari has stated that “Shadowman is the first in a large slate of film projects that we are developing and funding internally at Valiant.”

J. Michael Straczynski was attached to the project last year and expressed his enthusiasm for Shadowman because "A, I like jazz. B, I like the supernatural. And there's a really cool mix between those two, not just in terms of the usual New Orleans, Voodooo environment, but what is music but incantation?" Check out the interview to find out more on what JMS has planned.

Shadowman will be hard to pull off. What kind of audience will it aim to, I like to give all CBMs a chance but not all will work. I can't see how valiant can afford it not to be successful like luckily marvel had success with iron man but imagine if they didn't and that's a character that ppl know, not a lot of the target audience know who shadowman is.

Now this is the coolest cbm news ever!

Love SHADOWMAN... loved the comic book, loved the video game too! : P

Hellz yes!

Hollywood just don't cast a white dude or an Asian guy yo!

SHADOWMAN could be an awesome franchise if done right, can't wait if it happens, JMS = epic win!

If this makes it, man X0-MANOWAR could take on IRON MAN at the box office!

BLOODSHOT would make a great TV show too, yeah we need PUNISHER yet on HBO or something I know.

Jenny @ Yeah that first look is cool, I bet Hollywood will go with the later look though, but love the classic look!

THE FACE PAINT IS PRETTY SICK, THIS MIGHT DO VERY WELL..AN HE HIT THE POINT DEAD ON THAT YOU HAVE TO ESTABLISH THE CHARACTER FIRST WICH IS WHY GREEN LANTERN GOT SCREWED UP..HE WAS RIGHT..YOU CAN'T CARE ABOUT THE MAIN GUY IF YOU PUT TOO MUCH SUPER OR SUPERNATURAL IN THE MOVIE..

@Mercwitham0uth

Valiant recently rose from the ashes and dusted off their character roster with some nifty new updates (complete with a Marvel Studios-like plan to help self-produce movie adaptations based on the line). I have to say I'm rooting for 'em. I sincerely hope it all pays off.

Sounds great never read any of the comics am i right in presuming its aimed at an older audience. A new orleans voodoo jazz cbm sounds very cool indeed.

Hum, no jazz music please, I like the Shadowman comic, but if the movie has jazz in it, I won't be able to appreciate the movie.

Valiant has recently gained a rather die hard fan base since their relaunch. They've been pretty smart so far. Picking up good talent that the Big 2 werent fully utilizing. I hope they arent getting in over their heads with these movie plans.

All of the Valiant comics are doing great so far: X-O Manowar, Harginger, Bloodshot, Archer & Armstrong, and Shadowman. I hope they can pull off a great Shadowman movie and that it leads to others down the road as well.

Should be a few more titles coming out after this summer when Valiant is having it's first crossover (just between Harbinger and Bloodshot, not the whole universe of 5 titles). Harbinger Wars 1-4 from April to July, and they're also making a retro 8 bit type IOS game where you can be Bloodshot or Pete Stanchek and play through kinda what is happening in the mini-series. In fact, after each issue comes out, there will be an add-on for the game to expand it and show new stuff based on what new came out in that months comic!

Not sure who the new titles will be for yet, but they've introduced some characters in the books that are out and they might spin off into their own books: Ninjak, Eternal Warrior, Dr. Mirage (now a female), and HARD Corps!

If you love great characters and awesome storytelling, go check out Valiant! Their first trades are only $10 each! Or you might be able to catch the Comixology sale on issues of Harbinger and Bloodshot for only 99 cents each! I think it ends today the 10th of March though.
