New Tales From the Crypt Series Being Developed

It's been 15 years since HBO aired the anthology horror series Tales From the Crypt, based on the EC Comic of the same name, but the time seems right in this era of reboots and remakes for TFTC to make a comeback.

Reports Deadline, "A new TV series based on the popular and controversial 1950s EC Comics anthology books is in the works with Gil Adler, producer on the HBO Crypt series, and Andrew Cosby co-creator of Syfy hit Eureka and co-founder of comic book publisher BOOM! Studios. The new hourlong series will neither be anthological nor related to the HBO show. 'It will be an ongoing series that uses characters from the comic books in a more modern context,' Cosby said. 'It's all about continually elevating the genre, for both existing fans of the source material and mainstream audiences.'"

The series will be produced in cooperation with the estate of the late William M. Gaines, and the proposed project will be brought out for sale in the very near future. At this point an extremely detailed bible and "pitch" for the show has been completed.

dang!! i LOVE tales from the crypt. i use to watch this all the time as a kid when i was like 3-4 years old haha. i eventually got all the seasons on dvd which there is 7 of them and all the movies even the crappy straight to dvd movie that came out in 2006 i think? it was call ritual and it was terrible haha. i remember the cartoon that they eventually made for the morning cartoons on abc but it was just ok of course they had to make it kid friendly. anyways i hope they do bring back john kassir as the crypt keeper. i hope it stays true to the originals.

Wow someone was literally all "lets take something awesome and remake it into something completly different slap the old title on it and run with it". We have throw the S but someone needs to condense what they did to deadpool in origins into a witty jump the shark style term. because there is more and more of that exact kinda thing lately.

I just think if they "weapon eleven" tales from the crypt they'll ruin it. Every fan of tales from the crypt can probably list at least one that legit scared them. and the best part was with a new story every week u never knew what u were in for. i cant think of one paranormal or thriller tv series with a continuing story that was actually scary. most episodes were based on different issues of various EC horror comics. on top of everything with different story's every week they were able to constantly bring in big name stars of the time to star in them.

What they could at least do is have horror writers (comic, film, books whatever) write the series, since the old series used the comic as inspiration and I think they used most of the catalog. And also use well-known/up and coming actors/actress/directors, just like they did in the old series. And I would rather this be on cable such as StarZ or HBO, but i would be okay if it were on primetime/basic cable if they did'nt shorten the use of gore, horror, and what have you

"in this era of reboots and remakes" ...that's an accurate statement. And AS IN this era, this reboot/remake, will only be a made for SyFY (not Sci Fi) and completely capitalizing on those who don't know, or remember the series. Ie...stupid teens. The ones who watched Teen Wolf or the American SyFy Being Human, but then become "too hip" for those shows. And move onto something a little less "teeny" feeling.

My parents used to watch this and I remember being like five and always getting terrified by the opening when the Keeper popped up out the coffin. I knew it was coming every time but I still got scared. XD

This actually seems the most promising of the TV reboot/remakes. Keep it on HBO, don't add any of that teen angsty bullshit, and don't [frick] it up.

Twilight Zone, Outer Limits and Tales from the Crypt were the best anthology tv shows out there, sadly anthology series are dead. :(

The beginning of that show where you went up the steps, through the house, down into the crypt where the Keeper then sprang out of the coffin was just incredible.
