Shaun of the Dead Coming to TV

Working Title announces television deal with NBC International to bring this modern classic to the small screen.

Last week NBC Universal International and Working Title announced they were moving into TV production with new joint venture Working Title Television. One of the aims is to make TV adaptations of Working Title's library of more than 90 theatrical releases, which includes the Bridget Jones movies, Billy Elliot and Nanny McPhee, along with Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill and Shaun of the Dead.

These TV adaptations would initially be aimed at American audiences, but with the potential to be exported, or remade in a range of countries.

My opinion on this is a bit mixed. As much of a "Shaun of the Dead" fan as I am, I could see this a recipe for failure. With the success of "The Office", I think NBC is hoping lightning will strike twice. Got opinions, sound off.

I'm wondering if it will be a full American-ization, a continuation of the story, or stretching the movie out to cover a season.

Ugh, I cant see this working! Sounds like NBC have run out of original movie ideas and just feel like butchering a classic movie like this instead!

Kenny@ Thanks for the full list. My preferences would be Hot Fuzz, Big Lebowski, and Drop Dead Fred. Didn't realise how many good movies would end up on this list.

Well if the creators are involved...then maybe. But if I had to choose I would say "leave it alone", Shaun of the Dead and many of those other titles are absolutely awesome and should stay the way they are. The majority of the time americans just dont get british humour and end up wrecking it, so unless NBC plans on getting a better sense of humour they should leave these titles alone.

I cant help but think of all the previous TV series adapted from movies and cringing at the thought. Then again look at Buffy and Stargate. I still dont support the idea, but there is like a 5% chance this may work.

Shaun of the Dead was a very clever and original movie, but I don't see it as a good basis for a tv show.
