David Goyer Teases How Superman's Actions In MAN OF STEEL Will Lead To JUSTICE LEAGUE

"Superman is the first one. Superman comes forward and announces himself to the world. In him announcing himself, he’s the one that changes things." Hit the jump to hear more from David Goyer on how Man of Steel has kicked the door wide open for a DC Cinematic Universe and Justice League!

Warner Bros. are taking a very different approach to their DC Cinematic Universe when compared to what Marvel Studios have done, but it arguably sounds as if it could work just as well (if not better). Whereas Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor and the rest all happened roughly at the same time and led to a team being assembled to tackle an almighty threat in The Avengers, it appears as if Superman's actions in Man of Steel will lead to other superheroes being inspired to step forward as well. "It is our intention that, in success, this would be the zero issue and from this point onward, possible films could expand into a shared universe," Man of Steel and Justice League screenwriter David Goyer told Bleeding Cool. "In our world, the Man of Steel world, Zack has gone on record saying that we’re implying there are other superheroes in this world. But I don’t know that they’ve come forward yet. The idea is that Superman is the first one. There might be people helping people, but not in costumes, and that Superman comes forward and announces himself to the world. In him announcing himself, he’s the one that changes things."

What this means is that the planned Man of Steel could introduce or at least mention the fact that more superpowered individuals have emerged across America and they could then potentially be brought together as quickly as they were in DC's "The New 52" reboot. When asked if, "Bruce Wayne will feel alright in his ears, where he might not have dressed up like that before. Is that the kind of thinking?", Goyer replied: "Well, yes… there’s definitely… I don’t want to get too in depth. Obviously, Zack and I have had conversations… but there would be a cause and effect. And that would extend to the collateral damage that happened, and to what other countries feel about the fact Superman calls America his home. Man of Steel doesn’t exist in a vaccum." What do you guys think? Be sure to sound off with your thoughts and theories in the usual place!

So Superman has inspired other heroes to come out and reveal them selves to the world? I dig it.

That sounds awesome for characters like Flash and Batman but I feel Wonder Woman, Green Lantern and Aquaman wouldn't react in the same way

That being said, Aquaman and Wonder Woman are going to be tough sells.

Bat is too driven by his personal code or vendetta to have superman influence him to be the dark knight. Bruce has more than enough motivation, or he wouldn't be bat-man...

Who is Superman going to beat coming first? Batman and Flash? Aquaman and Wonder Woman come from exotic islands and places not known to man, Green Lantern could have left for Oa and be training during these events, and Martian Manhunter could either be hiding in the public or be captured by the FBI or something like that.

I mean Superman announcing himself first isn't really anything big.

Batman could step out of the shadows and Flash could put a costume on but Wonder Woman would be difficult as I feel she has to come on her own. Ditto with Green Lantern.

I'm fine with him inspiring other heroes but not Batmab. Batman should be inspired by what has always inspired him. But I live this direction, it shall work wonders

That makes sense and sounds like the way to go. You then would wonder though why Green Lantern didn't make himself known sooner. This was the type of battle that he should have showed up for. I guess you could say he was off world. I think this would allow Wonder Woman and Flash to step forward. I have a feeling that Batman would come last though.

Aquaman is better off holding til a JL sequel and do a Throne of Atlantis storyline.

I think that sounds cool. Superman comes out so more superheroes follow his lead and come out to show the world who they are. I like how Aquaman and Wonder Woman sound like they will be the next ones to get their own film.

A little off topic but has anyone heard if there is an end credit scene after Superman? Maybe with the Martian Manhunter coming to Superman in human form then changing into his alien form.

Potential spoilers, here...

It is indeed so, I suppose. The way he affirms his decision to protect the world in his own way, his act toward the military, et cetera, do bring the state of his presence on Earth to a different level; it's where the universe gets exciting. (Not to mention how he eventually adopts his secret identity - my personal favorite element of the character.) So yes, Man of Steel is indeed a perfect set-up for an expanded DC Universe, and I hope it happens, because what's left open by the end of the movie is too good to be wasted, despite the movie alone doesn't perfectly satisfy me.

I like this idea. Superman saving the Earth inspires other super heroes to come out. Then maybe Wonder Woman and Green Lantern can be introduced in their respective movies (that is if they reboot GL) then the Justice League will be formed as they all come together to fight a common threat.

Well, in most Batman origin stories, everyone assumes he's a myth to a certain degree. He wouldn't necessarily start being a costumed crime-fighter as much as be recognized as an actual person. At least that's the route I hope they take. It'll be pretty lame for Bruce to 'suit up' just because Clark shows up in his tights.

I don't overly bitch about Goyer, I just feel he does better when he has other writers. This project he seemed too much on his own.

the reviews are retarded. they are just mad because superman doesnt use the words "golly" or "gee wilckers" or "swell". people are saying its not 'fun'. the fun part is watching superman actually break a sweat for once. the reason chris reeve was so peppy was that he knew he could just spin the planet backwards and save the day, so no situation was too dire. if you want superman to whistle while he works, go watch the old tv show.

marantaz - 6/13/2013, 9:57 AM
Ok I get that, and it works for me, tho its not too exciting. More like saying Supers are just realizing their different thanks to Supes, and start coming out of the closet, and didn't we already do this in the X-Men films?

Marvel has already achieved it. By having SHIELD as the manipulative monitor of all things super, Marvel has already established that superheroes exist, science, magic and mutants, aliens, gods and demons, are all reality in their universe, and that anything can and probably will happen, and that the government will do whatever it can to keep it quiet.

Hellboy 2 is 89%

Also I like Boondock Saints and look where that film is. I also like Space Jam and check that film out.

Bugs Bunny & Michael Jordan team up to play basketball? How do you hate that? That's every kid in the 90s dream come true.

Hopefully they don't go the Darkseid route. I would rather see them come together to face an Earthborn enemy instead of another cosmic one. They could take a page from the Namor's story and have Aquaman lead an attack on the surface world.

But I would like to see Ultra Humanite, Brainiac, Lex Luthor, Joker, Solomon Grundy introduced into a shared DCU.

In the comic books, yes but as a big live action blockbuster, no. It would be one thing if the Avengers was a train wreck however it was anything but. That is something that can make Justice League's movie situation more difficult.

HOES

Guy and John with Hal or all 3?

Personally I've always thought the way to approch a Green Lantern film would be like Fantastic Four and X-Men. Have it not be a solo character but a team.

Have Hal Jordan as the leader kind of and the team includes John Stewart, Guy, Kilowag, and Laira.

Watchmen is my favorite team-up CBM, and it scores 64% at Rotten Tomatoes.

Iron Man Three, my current Movie of the Year, is at 78%, while my biggest disappointment in 2013 so far, Star Trek Into Darkness, sits at 87%.

Man of Steel does not perfectly satisfy me, but it's a good example of a blockbuster action flick - it balances its massive level of destruction with a big heart, and enough character progressions to save it from shallowness.

No, I still don't care about Rotten Tomatoes' aggregate.
