Army of the Dead arrives on Netflix today, and The Guardian caught up with director Zack Snyder to discuss his return to the world of zombies. In that interview, the filmmaker was also asked what he would have done differently had he been put in charge of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
"Nothing," Snyder confessed. "I could have changed it so it would have maybe made less money or been less beloved. But for what they’ve created - I don’t know that there is a better way to do it."
Clearly, the Justice League helmer doesn't feel like he would be the right fit for the MCU, which is no great surprise when Warner Bros. decided that his vision for the DC Extended Universe wasn't for them. Recently, Snyder singled out Iron Man and The Hulk as his favourite Marvel characters, but it's hard to imagine him ever getting to take a crack at them or any other hero who calls the MCU home.
Later, the site also asked the director to share his thoughts on Martin Scorsese's frequent criticisms of superhero movies. The legendary director really doesn't like the genre that Snyder has made a name for himself in, but he's in no way offended by Scorsese's snap judgement.
"Oh, it’s fair. Martin Scorsese is a genius. If you’re really good at something, commenting on that world is completely within your rights," Snyder argued. "And it doesn’t diminish my respect for him. I’m certain he wasn’t talking about my movies [laughs]. He might’ve been, but I like to think he wasn’t. He meant the other ones."
It's true that Scorsese did single out Marvel movies, but we're not sure he's spending his evenings watching Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and the "Snyder Cut" of Justice League!
Army of the Dead is now streaming on Netflix.
