JUSTICE LEAGUE Script Reportedly "Dark And Mature"

JUSTICE LEAGUE Script Reportedly "Dark And Mature"

Comic book writer and filmmaker Mark Millar has received word that the Justice League script is not an "Avengers knock-off." Should Warner Bros. swallow pride and follow Marvel's formula or venture off into a new direction?

Yesterday was a surprisingly big day for news around here. Early in the day, news dropped that Marvel Studios is reportedly planning to announce that Black Panther is their second 2014 film, alongside the Captain America sequel. Later that day, we received word that Warner Bros. is grooming a Justice League script with plans to "assemble" our favorite DC superheroes on the big screen. Comic book industry legend Mark Millar shared a few tidbits on the Justice League script over on his Millar World forum. Here's what he had to say----

A pal of mine is good friends with the new Justice League screenwriter and said his take on the team is incredible. Very real-world and not at all what you might expect. WB has a chequered history with their superhero characters. They're great with their boy wizards, but less consistent with their DC stable. But my chum said that this could be a thing of beauty and has been in the works for a little while now, not just an Avengers knock-off. Best of luck to them. The tidbits I heard sound quite dark and mature, which isn't what I expected. But word on Gangster Squad is great too so I feel this is in really good hands.

As the majority of our site readers know, Marvel has a carefully calculated formula for making their movies, mixing various amounts of humor, action and romance to yield a successful film universe which has yet to see a bad box-office performance. One thing Marvel's films are not, is "dark and mature", a description which quickly brings to mind Zack Snyder's 2009 Watchmen film. Keep in mind, the nature of Hollywood usually results in numerous script changes and re-writes so we will have to wait and see exactly what the polished script ultimately yields on the silver screen. Hopefully, now that news on the script has been revealed, and the fact that Variety had to wait a whole year to release the details means that WB is seriously going to start kicking tires and moving the project along.

That's good news, but I'm still anxious to see how theyre gonna handle WW and Flash. They NEED to put those solo movies out first for the general audiences sake

If they just stuck true to the animated Justice League Unlimited show they would have a winner.

Sounds like crap...
Justice League will not get made, if it does it won't be good... It'll just be thrown together because of the Avengers success.

Just do New Frontier, but without the big dinosaur island. Would love to see Luthor messing with the Cold War.

They are definitely taking a chance veering from the proven formula but think of it this way, if the movie is well done it's a foundation to release more character movies. I'm not a DC guy but I'm behind anything done WELL so here's hoping they do a good job. Not fanboi trashing the idea, because we all know more quality movies in the genre is good for all fans.

So if script is being written as we praise or condemn this movie to be, I wonder what year we can expect this, I am hoping it is ready to go by 2014 some time, I ain't gonna live forever.

So much depends on Man of Steel. If CAvill is a winner, then they have a springboard for JL.

Is every DC movie from now on gonna be "dark and mature" because of Nolan's Batman films?

This is hilarious and pathetic at the same time. Lmao. We'll get Superman with eyeliner and black nail polish too?

Best of luck to DC. Surprise us. And this also crushed fanfic writer's dreams, everywhere -- their idea for JL will never be used. Oh, well.

The Marvelites will now troll every bit of news on the JL movie, a sign of insecurity and fear this could eclipse their precious Avengers (which was very good). JL is the teaming up of the most influential heroes of all time, I hope they pull it off. The Avengers was a warm up and a lesson on how it can be done, it's up to WB to take it to the next level with the Justice League and give us the film we have all been waiting for since...forever!

Need to reboot Green Lantern first. Also need WW and Flash movies. If the new Superman works, stick with it. Batman is the big question i think, will it be rebooted just for JL since Nolan may be done with it? I would like to see Nolan's Batman continue into JL. All I can say is, if they release JL too soon, it will not have the success of Avengers, nor be as much fun.

I hope this doesn't mean Superman's gonna be like that DCUO trailer.

For as cool as that trailer looked, boy did they get the characters wrong.

I actually think for once the dark and mature take would work in this case, just for the sake of contrasting with the Avengers. I knock-off of the avengers would make less money and be critically panned.

I think had they taken a Chronicle-esque approach to Green Lantern it woulda been awesome.

Mark Millar is the biggest windbag in the entire entertainment industry. I'm surprised he's not a Fox Executive yet. As for ANY WB superhero film, i'll believe the hype when i see it. You won't Green Lantern me twice, that's for damn sure.

LMAO at people complaining that it will be mature. Time to grow up kiddies and watch an adult film. Yeah the Nolan formula is crap. Hasn't worked worth a flip yet has it. LMAO I'm gonna bust a gut from laughing at some of the stuff that is said on here.

Grif is 100% correct. DC have a darker, more mature, dare I say "realistic" universe than Marvel so that's how the movie should be.

Just hope Cavill is tied to this because the guy looks more like Superman than Superman himself these days! His performance in Immortals screamed Supes to me and he's bulked up even more.
