There's a new sci-fi adventure movie in the works from Rampage director Brad Peyton, and it's now secured Dave Bautista (GOTG; Blade Runner 2049; Dune) as its lead.

Universe’s Most Wanted will focus on "a small town which gets a big surprise when a space ship carrying the universe’s most wanted and dangerous criminals crash lands in their backyard. Soon the sheriff’s son becomes a hero when he finds himself helping an intergalactic peacekeeper (Bautista) to keep the ragtag group of alien prisoners from escaping and taking over the world."

No word on who'll play the son or any other characters, but the supporting roles are "actively" being cast, so we should find out fairly soon.

Peyton will produce via his ASAP Entertainment production company, along with ASAP’s Jeff Fierson. The script was penned by xXx: Return of Xander Cage writer F. Scott Frazier and Jimmy Loweree. Bautista will also produce.

“Jeff and I are incredibly excited to be teaming up with Dave, Jonathan and AGC on this project," said Peyton. "Scott and Jimmy are terrific writers and have conceived of the perfect sci fi tentpole that fits perfectly into ASAP’s brand and my directing sensibilities. We couldn’t be more thrilled to get going on Universe’s Most Wanted. This is the type of fun mysterious and irreverent adventure we all need right now."

What do you guys think? Does this sound like it has potential? Universe’s Most Wanted is currently slated to begin shooting next spring.

Sounds like a poor man’s Zathura with a reversed plot surrounding a board game.

Might be fun...

This should have been a premise for a Men In Black sequel. Could have gotten Tommy Lee Jones to do the Fugitive thing again, but with aliens.

With a better screenwriter this could be fun.

Or at least get someone like Joe Cornish behind the camera too
