Closing Scenes Of Ridley Scott's Prometheus Will Tie Into Alien; No Cameo From Sigourney Weaver

Ridley Scott has dished a few more details about his movie, Prometheus, and its relationship with his sci-fi classic; Alien. Hit the jump to read some excerpts from the interview.

The guys over at The Wall Street Journal's SpeakEasy Blog have been chatting with Ridley Scott about the recently completed Prometheus. In the interview he has revealed a little bit more information about the plot of the movie and its relationship with his Sci-Fi classic, Alien.

On the story of Prometheus
The central metaphor of “Prometheus” is about a “higher being” who challenges the gods, and the gods don’t want to give him fire. “Fire is our first form of technology,” Scott says, and so by taking fire, the higher being is punished “in perpetuity in a horrible fashion.” Much like the story of the mythological god, Prometheus, who stole fire from Zeus and for his actions was bound to a rock with an eagle eternally devouring his liver. (Let’s hope things turn out differently for our higher being…)

On returning to science fiction
Scott is especially excited about the story of “Prometheus” — you can hear the enthusiasm in his voice when he discusses the film. The screenplay was written by Damon Lindelof and Jon Spaihts. “I think the reason why I haven’t attempted science fiction in a number of years is because I haven’t really come across a script that I really liked,” Scott says. “This developed and came out extremely well.”

On the films relationship with Alien
The last eight minutes of the “Prometheus” story evolve into “a pretty good DNA of the ‘Alien’ one.”

On the digital effects and 3D in the movie
Regarding the use of 3-D and CGI, Scott says he has “completely taken off into this cyberworld” and called working on”Prometheus” “the best time I’ve had in a number of years making a movie.”

On the speculated Ripley cameo
We confirmed with 20th Century Fox that Sigourney Weaver, star of the first four “Alien” films, doesn’t make a cameo in “Prometheus.” Too bad, Ripley fans.

We have all been wondering if Prometheus would sit comfortably within the universe Scott created in Alien, but with these comments I think we can safely say that the closing scenes will leave us in a position where we will all feel comfortable about it...

Share your thoughts below.

Prometheus stars Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Logan Marshall-Green, Ben Foster, and Michael Fassbender.

Prometheus will hit theaters on June 8th, 2012!

I really cannot wait for this. It's probably not as 'exciting' per say as The Avengers or TASM, but god damn it I miss me some Alien(s) on the big screen! AVP and AVP:R don't count. We ignore those like when your cat shits in the corner and you wait till someone else notices it.

Sigourney Weaver could do a voice over.

Maybe she can be the computer´s voice.
Since we already had a "Father" and "Mother" as computers, she
could be "AUNT".

Remember one of the writers is Lindelof... Maybe the reason the aliens were created is they fell into a vortex of electromagnetism and were transformed, I hope he can come up with a good story this time

I would have preferred a James Cameron-helmed direct sequel to ALIENS (erasing the events of 3 and 4), but I think this Ridley Scott-directed prequel will nicely give the series the trilogy closure it deserves.

@JackBauer how is TDKR only number 6? aslo Skyfall seems to be one of the best bond films in a very long time.

@DavidPalmer - Hello Mr. President ;)

The reason TDKR is only #6 is because I'm not a Batman fan. I've liked most of the movies, especially Begins, but I think TDK was overated. Also, a non-sexy Catwoman caused it lose a few points in my book.

As for Skyfall, I am a huge Bond fan so I can't wait to see it. Hopefully it will have more of a story than Quantum Of Solace did, although I do understand the point of the movie was for Bond to get revenge, nothing else.

Hope this marks the return of epic SCI-FI films aimed at mature audiences. The period from the late seventy's to the late eighty's was so great because while the studios had "tent pole" SCI-FI franchises like Star Wars,Star trek,ET,Close Encounters,Back to the Future,The Goonies,Gremlins and GhostBusters (Even the Superman and Batman films could be lumped into SCI-FI because the CBM genre was still in its infancy)The studios were willing to take chances on rated R properties that didn't offer the chance to be on a lunch box. Alien,The
Terminator,Predator,Blade Runner,RoboCop,the first two MadMax films and the Thing were being produced because the studios treated SCI-FI films the same way they still treat dramas,as subject matter broad enough to span from PG-13 to R ratings.

I just can't wait, Scott has given us some of the best Sci-Fi movies ever made. This is the most anticipated movie for me, second is The Avengers. Now if I could have a COLONIAL MARINES movie, that would make me one happy geek. Been waiting for that one since Aliens.

Can't really do a Ripley cameo. That was her break-out role at age 30.... she's 62. Also, her rank on the Nostromo is that of a Lieutenant, and she is a warrant officer... meaning Weyland-Yutani didn't hand-pick her to serve on the crew. If there would be any cameo, it would be either Ash (Ian Holm), Dallas (Tom Skerritt), or his XO Kane (John Hurt). But again, everyone has aged considerably. The most we'd get in a cameo would be a voice in a transmission.

Even without Ripley in it, I'm still really looking forward to it. I'm hoping to maybe fly my girlfriend down here to see me so we can watch it together.

I think it was worse. If you define better as more blood and guts, then sure. Requiem marks the first and only movie that I have ever walked out of. Granted, I was with someone who wanted to do something else at the time, but the damage is done.

I'm excited about the actors too.

hope its better then any of the AVP's or the new Predator movie. Alien was one of the best sci-fi horror movie, i hope they don't ruin it

Alien IS the best of the genre, not that I don't like the other movies.

I'm not saying AVP was a good movie by any means. God do you know how pissed off I was, having bought those awesome action figures of the Scar Predator and the Grid Xenomorph, only to NOT be able to see the movie when it came out because of some really awful hurricane that closed every theater in Tampa that week? Of course, as soon as it opened, I hurried as best I could to see it... but that was one of the most disappointing film experiences of my life.

Still, a buried pyramid in Antarctica is a hundred times better than being subjected to high school drama and a bunch of homeless people living in a sewer. At no point did it ever feel like a movie out of any of the two series'.

with The Thing, Prometheus and The Hobbit...i hope we'd see the LAST batch of PREQUELS...at least for the next few years...

i mean, c'mon...i wanna see something different, new and fresh.

that said..here's MY most anticipated 2012 flicks:

1. Marvel's The Avengers ('nuff said)

2. The Dark Knight Rises (i'm still hoping Nolan's got something up his sleeves that we HAVEN'T been LEAKED, like...oh, i dunno, additional classic villain or two)

3. Prometheus (cuz i love Alien and Ridley Scott)

4. Skyfall (cuz daniel craig's gotta make up for Quantum of Solace and the delay of this one)

5. Star Trek 2 (cuz i like the first one)

6. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (if it were just ONE big movie, i'd probably put it as my number 2)

7. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (Lincoln as a vampire slayer...who wouldn't wanna see THAT?? though, i'm more of a zombie guy than a vampire one..where's 28 MONTHS Later??? or Pride and Prejudice AND Zombies???)

8. The Brave (animation is a cbm, right..and Pixar just can't go wrong, in my book...except for Cars 2)

9. The Expendables 2 (Sly and the boys are back..this time, Brucie and Arnie's got more scenes..plus, Chuck Norris and JCVD...come ONNNNN, man, this is THE action movie to see)

10. The Amazing Spider-Man (just because i wanna see The Lizard, in all its glorious CG flesh)
