Hold The Phone! Bill Murray Now Says GHOSTBUSTERS 3 Is A "Possibility"

Now Ghost busters' fans have a glimmer of hope that the original Peter Venkman, Bill Murray, will return at least in some form for the long awaited sequel, Ghostbusters 3.

Okay we don't have much to work with here, but before Bill Murray was to throw the first pitch at a Chicago Cubs' game, a local reporter asked him about his involvement in Ghostbusters 3. The wonderfully dry comedian/actor surprisingly had a rather optimistic reply, ""well, it's a possibility."

I'm not gonna regurgitate the whole back story of this saga, but I will bring up the last bit of info that came out in February. Bill's fellow Ghostbuster, Dan Aykroyd, was making the rounds and the subject of Bill Murray being involved in Ghostbusters 3 sounded as dead as dead can get.

""He doesn't want to be involved. He's got six kids, houses all over America. He golfs in these tournaments where they pay him to turn up and have a laugh. He's into this life and living it. I know we'd have a lot of fun [but] I can't be mad at him. He's a friend first, a colleague second."

"It's a surety that Bill Murray will not do the movie, however there is still interest from the studio."

I just can't see another Ghostbusters film becoming anything but a weak retread of the original two movies.

But if Bill Murray does come back for part 3, at least it'll be a little more respectable.

Murray is smart to avoid this like the plague.

I doubt it'll happen honestly, but if it does I believe it'll be better with Murray in it.

IN all honesty if and when this movie actually goes into production it needs to be about the old Ghost Busters training a new generation of Ghost Busters.

They better be mentors training new team if they do it.
I dont really care if Murray´s in it or not. But if he isnt they better just kill his character.

I'm not holding my breath. I'm with imnotwearinghockeypants, maybe they should just let this one go.

If you make Murray a ghost, he'll eat it up. After all, he was a tree in Get Smart.

I feel like at this point if it gets made it will be in the vein of Smurfs, Alvin and The Chipmunks, or The Three Stooges.

don't care. This franchise is dead. If they bring it back, it will be about a dead franchise busting dead ghosts.

keep this in the coffin. I hope Bill Murray focuses on getting roles that will land him an Oscar one day.

Loved the original. The sequel was weak. I cannot imagine this 'long awaited' third installment could be good. I'm with Bill Murray on this one. If he ends up doing it, I would hope it is because the script is at least an improvement over part 2. If he doesn't do it, good, won't miss it.

maybe he'll come back as a ghost in the third one so he doesn't have to make a fourth ever

@monkeyballs3: I understand the hate for GB2, but you have to admit, we got a wonderful Bill Murray performance out of it.

Ghostbusters 2 would have been better without mood slime. That was just incredibly lame. And this thing is just treading so much water that any interest I had is gone. Ghostbuster the Video Game was a good enough sequel for me. And if I see a reboot or a remake with the names Rogen or Cera, I'll be beyond pissed.

Stop slagging off Ghostbusters 2. I don't understand the hate at all. It's so much like 'Temple Of Doom' was the most hated until a few years ago. Ghostbusters 2 was awesome, not quite as good as the original but it's still a classic.

And if people are attacking the sequel I guarantee they'll be back here bitching about the third one, when they show the Ghostbusters spending 10 minutes on screen training a new team. That sucks and I hope it never gets made unless they return the original team exactly how they were in the 80s. That's what the majority want to see, and give it a decent story not a rehash.

They shouldn't even bother if they're going to ignore the fans. I'm glad that Bill Murray realizes that this is a bad idea and they can't buy him. Columbia should've out up the money for a 3rd Ghostbusters movie back in 1992. Now it's too late. CGI shitfest is the thing!

Talk, talk, talk... If your going to make the movie let's get to it. The drama surrounding this flick is beginning to become unappealing.

Look for as much as I want this to happen you have to realize all bill Murray has been doing for the past 20 years is trolling the fans with fake leads and false hope, he does it to get a kick don't put much stark into this

@bgg1175: You're exactly right. Everything about GB2 was based on the cartoon: the packs were more cartoony, the ghost designs were more cartoony, and the plot of course seemed right out of that show. Even Annie Potts' wardrobe & hair were changed to match the look of her character in the cartoon.

I liked the cartoon -- a lot -- I thought it was quite witty and a lot of fun. I disagree about your "giant bad guy" comment for the climax of every episode (not that they didn't do it, but I think they were more creative than that), but, yeah, they should have followed the tone of the film rather than the cartoon.

The video game really served fine as the third movie, while it would be interesting to see the ghost busters training new recruits, I feel like the original casts role wold be down played and I don't want that, if your going to have new ghost busters fine but keep the original cast important and pivotal to the story through out e whole movie
