How the First Spider-Man Should Have Been

Some changes Sam Raimi could have made to make it more tolerable...

I am not going to make an entire list of things Raimi could have done, because I don't want a thirty-four hour article. I am keeping the actors just to keep it simple.

Spider-Man

I am just going to say it: I really liked the origin, the actors, and (even) the lack of web shooters. My only complaint is Mary Jane, the Green Goblin, and no wise cracks.

My take: Have Peter chasing Liz until the spider bite. He then goes to work for JJJ, and tries for Betty. All the while, Aunt May tries to introduce the Watson girl from next door. Peter is always making excuses to evade her--insert some comedy. Instead of the Goblin rolling in on his glider, Peter could have faced a better villain to match him,the Vulture. How could would that have been with Spider-Man versus the Vulture atop the roofs of NYC? Similar to the books, his last battle he could sprain or break his arm to add touch of reality.

Leading in to the sequel, Peter could graduate and go off to college. Orientation could introduce him to Harry and Gwen. In between, he returns to the Bugle to see Betty dating a new man. He asks JJJ to give him a new assignment, which turns out to be Dr. Octavios' fusion experiment. I know I'm borrowing from "Batman Begins," but hey, it's just a suggestion.

If Vulture had been the villain, it would have flopped. Less than 10% of the population knows who Vulture is, and it would have come off as tacky.

The first movie wasn't perfect, but The VULTURE!? One of his lamest villans ever. Gobby was the best choice for the first movie.

@PIELOVER45 i really agree! kinda but instead of just the vulture i'd have electro, shocker, and other little villains... gobby was too big to be in the first movie but the little villains r too small to just be with them self... so more little villains!

This is probably too long winded but I'm gonna try anyway.
Note: This is NOT related to what I think they should do with the new reboot, just the way I think a good spidey trilogy could be fleshed out.

SPIDER-MAN I: The origin. Sets up the main supporting cast Aunt May, MJ, Gwen, Liz, Flash, Harry, Norman, JJ, Cpt. Stacy, etc. We tie Peter getting bit into the same event as Octavius getting his arms AND Norman getting doused with the funky green gas. Osborn funds Octavius, in turn Octavius goes for revenge on Norman who through the course of the first film starts acting a little...odd. Peter heroes up and puts his new found power to use to bring Octavius to justice...not death. Peter ends up with Gwen and MJ with Harry, all the while MJ has eyes for Peter. The movie ends with a reveal that Norman is bat shit crazy and his actual FACE is slowly turning into the Green Goblin which he hides under a Norman Osborn MASK.

SPIDER-MAN II:
All of New York, thanks to J Jonah Jameson, hates Spider-Man. More super powered bad guys keep showing up like ELECTRO and SANDMAN. Norman Osborn's insanity (and genetic deterioration) keeps growing and his hidden work toward genetic research have created this chapter's villains. Peter's social life has taken quite the downturn due to his secret life which puts his relationship with Gwen in jeopardy. During a rooftop battle with Sandman a toppled chimney strikes and kills Cpt. Stacy. In the climactic battle with our 2 villains a blast from Electro turns the Sandman to glass. Just as Peter thinks everything is through we see The Green Goblin appear on his glider with a bag full of nasty tricks. Peter is nearly killed but at the last mintue the Goblin reveals he isn't finished with him by a long shot.

SPIDER-MAN III:
This is the Green Goblin storyline. Osborn learns about Peter's identity and makes his life a living hell. All the while Peter is conflicted with his double life and his love for Gwen. I picture Norman sort of like the villain from "Seven" relentlessly taunting Peter at every turn until finally, while Peter is on his way to confess his secret to Gwen, he sees the Goblin flying away with her slung over his shoulder. What happens next is the classic battle from the comics. Gwen is tossed from the bridge and Peter's rescue snaps her neck. The Goblin taunts him that she was dead long before she was thrown but that doesn't stop Peter. Just as Peter is about to lose all control and kill the goblin he comes to his senses and his spider sense warns him of the glider flying straight towards him. He gets out of the way and Norman is killed. Peter limps off devestated. From the shadows emerges Harry, a new found hatred burning through him. The movie ends with a battered and bruised Peter being comforted by MJ. The stage is set for another trilogy filled with all the drama and twists that make Spider-Man such a great character.

spider-man-the first film would of been better if they done this.

1.recast peter parker-jake gyleenhaal
2.recast mary jane-mary elizabeth winstead
3.different director-zack snyder
4.less corny writing, some of it made me fill sick.
5.the green goblin should of had a rubber mask & pumpkin bombs & so on,not to look like he could take on ironman in his suit of armour.

i think thats about it.

I think its been confirmed that glenn stacy is the love interest in the film not liz or mary jane. Also while I hated the green goblin suit I loved the actor that played the role and I don't think ANYONE could have done it better then Willem Dafoe

@Teabag

I LOVED the Spider-Man movies, ok I guess I LIKED part 3, and I think part 2 is perhaps one of THE BEST CBMS ever. There were just a few things that I felt needed to be stretched out, namely the Norman Osborn/GG story line. Taking it over the course of 2 or 3 films would allow people to really see how much of a impact he had on Peter's life.

these other people righting that the vulture would of been tacky dont know jack shit.. simply because you need to stay as true to the source as possible and this would do it! and surpass the first film maybe not in gross money but got everything right
thetrubatman14
thetrubatman14 - 8/2/2010, 12:05 PM
and remeber in batman begins which is one of the best comic adaptations of all time the villian was scarecrow so apparently you can do it with a so called tacky villian.. but he doesnt need to be tacky make him relastic, evil, and baddass! but add gwen, webshooters, and awsome cameos and a great story and this will be one of the best movies marvel has ever directed! and they need this right now since avengers is gonna suck becuase of no norton!!! marvel should strive to be more like D.C. in movie making ability such as singers superman and nolans batman.

@thetrubatman14 - The Avengers will not suck. One actor will not make or break a movie.

For example. George Clooney in Batman. That entire Batman movie was horribly miscast. Do you think if they cast Ed Norton as Batman, the movie would have been better? No. The other actors still sucked terribly.
