THE SINISTER SIX Gets A 2016 Release Date; AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3 Gets Pushed Back To 2018

It appears Sony has finally mapped out their first move, following the not-so-Amazing Spider-Man 2, which is to push back Spidey's third film by 2 years and release The Sinister Six in 2016! Check it out

Given that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is the lowest-grossing Spidey movie ever and, quite frankly, a critical flop, there has been much uncertainy about where Sony Pictures will take the franchise and its previously-announced villain spin-off movies. Now ahead of this week's San Diego Comi-Con, The Hollywood Reporter reports that the studio has scheduled to first release The Sinister Six on November 11, 2016,  and will eventually release The Amazing Spider-Man 3 in 2018. The third and fourth sequels to Marc Webb's Amazing Spider-Man were initally set for release on June 10, 2016, and May 4, 2018, but Sony is apparently happy with The Sinister Six writer/director Drew Goddard's rough script and ultimately what he has planned for the supervillain team-up movie, which The Amazing Spider-Man 2 notably spent precious screen-time trying to establish. What do you think?

"With Sinister Six in the hands of writer-director Drew Goddard, we feel extremely confident placing the film on a prime date in 2016," said Sony president Doug Belgrad in a statement.

I still don't see the point of a Sinister Six movie. I do wish this film luck but I'm still on the fence about it.

So it seems like the Sinister Six film will focus on the formation of the team and how they actually start to become somewhat productive and then in TASM 3 we'll see them all go against Spidey right? They really pushed the date back on TASM3 though. But I'll be patient especially if they're trying to get their stuff straight. However, could this pushed back date to 2018 mean that they're waiting for the writers to return?? :O If so, I don't really know how to feel about that but knowing that there was a different version of TASM2 before it got trimmed down makes me a little confident in what they'll be doing. Just take your time and really know the Threequel out of the park Sony.

Does this mean we'll get Venom in 2017?!?! I hope so...

Oh hell yeah!! I'm a little disappointed that ASM3 is in 2018 but maybe that means Venom coming out in 2017! :D

@COREYxYEROC
It underperformed, it didn't do as much as they wanted it to do and it was lower than the first one. Any other studio would take that to mean any movie afterwards is gonna keep the number dropping, not rising. Yeah, 700mil is a hefty sum but it's not what they were expecting at all.

@Ezio

I think they'll start off sinister as it was concluded within TASM2 but then within the film they'll start to have second thoughts or something may happen which will cause them to go against one another and by the time TASM3 gets here we'll have a new roster and return of the team to go against Spidey.

No one will watch a Sinister Six film. Zero appeal. Sony look desperate.

A Venom movie without Spider-Man or Carnage is also ridiculous.

Makes sense that Sinister Six would come before TASM3. It would be really weird if after all that setup and heavily teasing the formation of the team at the end of TASM2 that they just hop onto another story while the other is still going. Can't wait!

If you think people won't see Sinister Six because of how different it is from a regular superhero film (using villains) than you have to also agree that there is no interest in Guardians of the Galaxy because it's so drastically different from any superhero film (using a tree and a raccoon).

The 4 year break between Spider-Man centric films is long but at least we get something inbetween. It's better than having a 3 year wait like Spider-Man 2 to 3 and getting nothing to feel the gap in time.
