DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn continues to tease fans on social media with minor new pieces of intel about the DCU's future, but his latest comments about 2025's Superman: Legacy are sure to raise some eyebrows.
According to the filmmaker, he was first tapped to write that movie over six months ago. He'd later reiterate that both the reboot and his Creature Commandos animated TV series were in the works prior to the formation of DC Studios, suggesting Warner Bros. was mulling over multiple Superman projects.
While we don't have a definitive timeline, it seems the studio may have turned to Gunn when the various Man of Steel 2 pitches they entertained - with Henry Cavill set to return as Kal-El - failed to impress. With that in mind, plans to ditch the British actor both before and after his Black Adam cameo may have been discussed much longer than we realised.
Whatever the case may be on that front, Gunn has also teased plans for Wonder Woman in the DCU.
We're really no closer to learning whether Gal Gadot will continue playing the Amazon warrior after DC Studios have Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman 3 pitch the thumbs down. However, casting a younger actress in the role isn't outside the realm of possibility when Gadot is already 37.
Remember, the plan is for the DCU's Superman and Batman to be more youthful than their previous iterations, so it only makes sense for Diana Prince to follow suit.
Gunn didn't get into specifics on that front, but did at least confirm he has plans for the hero moving forward.
Superman: Legacy is set to be released in theaters on July 11, 2025.
