The first official teaser trailer hit for Jonathan Liebesman's upcoming film, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Here's an interview with screenwriter Andre Nemec on the movie's tone, as well as his thoughts on producer Michael Bay, the Turtle's origins, and more.
Many fans have been extremely worried about the Jonathan Liebesman directed, Michael Bay produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film -- and can you blame them? We've had rumors and conformed details aplenty that make this movie sound like it could turn out to be the next Batman and Robin. Today we received our first trailer, and that didn't really do much to warm up opinions. Comingsoon got an exclusive interview with TMNT's screenwriter Andre Nemec, in which he reassures that it will be enjoyed by fans, and while making it a feast for action lovers, he states that it will be kid-friendly as well. Nemec also talked about the character's origins, and much more!
He started off talking about the film's tone, saying: "The tone was a interesting question as far as how dark we wanted it to be. It’s all in the conflict between the characters. That was the driving principle. We weren't looking to make The Dark Knight. I’m a fan of that movie, but I didn't want kids to be running for the exits. We wanted to entertain and have fun with it. We live on a very fun line in this movie, whether it's the action feeling real and exciting, but also fun and adventurous. It really never feels dark in a way that would startle you or make you fearful." Next came the questions about Transformers director Michael Bay's involvement with the film as producer. He tried to reassure fans, saying: "Michael has been an influence on the movie and he’s certainly been paying attention to the movie. He has a very good sense of action, as well as entertainment. I think that, on those influences, you’ll feel Michael Bay’s hand." Moving on to the origin of the turtles, Nemec said: "Looking through the different the iterations have different origin stories. There were were several versions of the ooze where it was created in a laboratory. There’s the sewers. There’s T.C.R.I. We wanted to find our own version of how these Turtles came to be so that they can stand as their own characters. There have been a million versions. We just thought it was important to create our own origin that lives within the balance of it."
