Many fans have been extremely worried about the Jonathan Liebesman directed, Michael Bay produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film -- and can you blame them? We've had rumors and conformed details aplenty that make this movie sound like it could turn out to be the next Batman and Robin. Today we received our first trailer, and that didn't really do much to warm up opinions. Comingsoon got an exclusive interview with TMNT's screenwriter Andre Nemec, in which he reassures that it will be enjoyed by fans, and while making it a feast for action lovers, he states that it will be kid-friendly as well. Nemec also talked about the character's origins, and much more!

He started off talking about the film's tone, saying: "The tone was a interesting question as far as how dark we wanted it to be. It’s all in the conflict between the characters. That was the driving principle. We weren't looking to make The Dark Knight. I’m a fan of that movie, but I didn't want kids to be running for the exits. We wanted to entertain and have fun with it. We live on a very fun line in this movie, whether it's the action feeling real and exciting, but also fun and adventurous. It really never feels dark in a way that would startle you or make you fearful." Next came the questions about Transformers director Michael Bay's involvement with the film as producer. He tried to reassure fans, saying: "Michael has been an influence on the movie and he’s certainly been paying attention to the movie. He has a very good sense of action, as well as entertainment. I think that, on those influences, you’ll feel Michael Bay’s hand." Moving on to the origin of the turtles, Nemec said: "Looking through the different the iterations have different origin stories. There were were several versions of the ooze where it was created in a laboratory. There’s the sewers. There’s T.C.R.I. We wanted to find our own version of how these Turtles came to be so that they can stand as their own characters. There have been a million versions. We just thought it was important to create our own origin that lives within the balance of it."

"The city needs heroes. Darkness has settled over New York City as Shredder and his evil Foot Clan have an iron grip on everything from the police to the politicians. The future is grim until four unlikely outcast brothers rise from the sewers and discover their destiny as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The Turtles must work with fearless reporter April and her wise-cracking cameraman Vern Fenwick to save the city and unravel Shredder’s diabolical plan."
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is directed by Jonathan Liebesman. It stars Megan Fox, Pete Ploszek, Noel Fisher, Jeremy Howard, Alan Ritchson, Danny Woodburn, William Fichtner, Will Arnett, and Whoopi Goldberg. The heroes in a half-shell with hit theaters on August 8.

I know it will never happen, but I would really like to see a dark, violent version taken from the first few issues of Mirage's Volume 1.

The audience will feel Michael Bay's hand taking money from their wallets.

No matter what Bay does to it, this film will still be miles better than a certain other TMNT film.

There are so many different versions of the Turtles nowadays, this is just another one to add to the list. The trailer was interesting and I want to see where it goes. I'm not pumped, but I'm not turning away from it just yet

screw you people that shot when Leo jumped in front of April is total awesomeness ...you don't deserve this movie and its aesthetics ...while I didn't like transformers movies but some of them had really cool action scenes ....and speaking about bad humor wasn't THOR tdw and IRON MAN 3 filled with silly cheesy bad humor ?!!!!!

@Cles

Right on! There should never be another Turtle anything unless it is made with the original comics in mind.

Cles@ You and me, both.
And yeah, like JamesMan@ pointed out, it has gotta be better than either of the live-action sequels.
In fact it is already better than the live action sequels, just with the trailer.
I am pretty hopeful about this film, now, myself. I like the fact that there is TCRI on the ooze, I like that April's dad has worked with the Shredder to create the turtles. I like the footage I see. I just really, really hope that Shredder is an utrom or that utroms are involved in TCRI in some way. And that scientist in that one shot... man that'd be cool if that were Baxter. Or Honeycutt.
So far, so good. Nothing too bad, yet. Y'know, aside from the americanising of Saki and the crime-fighting aspect.

This won't be better than TMNT I or II. It won't be better than the Nicktoon's cartoon either. Booyakasha!

Even if it does turn out to be the worst thing since Batman & Robin, just watching that trailer has made my anticipation for this go up a bilion notches. I mean just look at Leo. Man, that is the Leo I know from the original comics. His eyes... that is Leo.

This is now my fourth most anticipated cbm.

1. Batman Vs Superman.
2. Avengers: Age of Ultron.
3. X-Men: Days of Future Past.
4. Michael pissing Bay's Teenage Mutant Ninja Fvcking Turtles.
5. Guardians of the Galaxy.
6. Ant-Man.
7. Dark Universe.
8. Sandman.
9. Noah.
10. The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Millions of versions? Really? Perhaps a more-than-slight exaggeration? If there are a number of origin stories, why create a new one? Origins of heroes is one thing that I don't like to see messed with.

Bay is a cunnt. But if he makes Shredder an Utrom and has Baxter Stockman and Honeycutt working for TCRI, then I will let him cum on my future wifes face, if I ever get married. And he can take my anonymous username's word on that.

Hope they keep the pretentiousness levels really low on this. It's a movie about Ninja Turtles. Don't turn it into something it's not. I want to enjoy this cinematic experience, not feel like I'm watching a police drama on Television waiting for the bad guy to get caught and go to prison so I can go back to enjoying life.
I know they can't recreate TMNT 1, but they can recreate the spirit. That's all I'm really hoping for in this new Turtles movie. P.S Leo looks awesome!

I feel like only 2 out of the 400 of you that comment about this movie actually understand the true lore and purpose of the TMNT as a team, as brothers, as outcasts raised by an old man with a vendetta.

Those same 2 are apparently the only ones who recognize how many completely different iterations there are to the Turtles origin.

IDW's current run of TMNT is the perfect place for uneasy and weary fans to ease their minds on the (most likely) obvious route this film is going.

Did you all know that the Turtles are now reincarnated brothers, all different ages, from feudal Japan hundreds of years ago?

Did you know they were beheaded in front of their father, Hamato Yoshi, by Oroku Saki?

Did you know their five spirits lived in four pet turtles and a rat at STOCKgen? Where they were named by ... wait for it... April O'Neil?

Well then I guess you also didn't know that April's father worked at StockGen years ago, where he worked on a mysterious green OOZE.

Oh, and StockGen was working on some sort of biological armor, based off the shells of turtles.

THIS is the current TMNT comic that has hardcore fans by the balls, eating it up every week. On paper it sounds like crap, but once you read ONE issue, you're on familiar ground.

STOP. TRIPPIN'. Y'ALL.

Dang...
