The Flash TV series was one of the first live-action comic book adaptations to explore the concept of the Multiverse, but The Flash movie now looks set to expand on that in a big way. If the recent news that Michael Keaton will play Batman in Batgirl is any indication, a new DC Extended Universe will be created by the time all is said and done, helping Warner Bros. to move on from the "SnyderVerse."
There have been rumours about The Flash featuring some big cameos, but two more have now been revealed courtesy of Warner Bros.' UK website.
In an official cast list for Andy Muschietti's DC Comics adaptation, it's confirmed that Michael Shannon and Antje Traue will appear in the movie. You'll no doubt remember them as General Zod and Faora-Ul in 2013's Man of Steel, and it's safe to assume they'll somehow factor into the origin story of Sasha Calle's Supergirl.
With no sign of Henry Cavill being brought back as Superman and multiple projects revolving around the character in the works without him, this new world will likely replace Superman with Supergirl. That probably means we can expect Zod and Faora to be retconned into the Girl of Steel's origin story somehow, though it's also possible time-travel will take us back to the events of Man of Steel.
A brief new synopsis for The Flash has also been revealed, though it doesn't shed a whole lot of light on what to expect: "Ezra Miller stars as Barry Allen, AKA The Flash, who pushes the limits of his superpowers in the DC Super Hero's first-ever standalone feature film."
The Flash races into theaters on November 4, 2022.
