See which movie trailer CBM users thought did the better job of raising interest in it's upcoming film. Was it Thor or was it The Green Lantern?

Feature Opinion

Last Saturday I asked the CBM community to take a look at the trailers for the much anticipated Thor and Green Lantern films and vote on which one they felt did a better job of raising interest in the film. While I tried to make it clear that this was about how well the trailers did their job, some of you still felt it was a "my hero can beat up your hero" POLL.

With over 2,800 users voting in the first POLL alone, it turned out to be a subject many of you decided to share your opinion on. Thankfully, judging from the comments, most of you approached this POLL with a clear head and many very good reasons for why you voted as you did.

Now for the results...

Which movie trailer has you looking forward to the film the most?

THOR - 1,706 Votes (59.57%)

The Green Lantern - 584 Votes (20.39%)

They both look great, I am looking forward to both of them equally. - 530 Votes (18.51%)

I don't think either trailer looks very good. - 44 Votes (1.54%)

Which movie trailer do you think will attract more non comic book fans?

THOR - 1,062 Votes (50.57%)

The Green Lantern - 759 Votes (36.14%)

Both look like they can pull in many non comic fans. - 245 Votes (11.67%)

Neither one looks like it has the ability to attract someone who is not already a fan of the character. - 34 Votes (1.62%)

Hawksblueyes: Thanks for voting and remember all comments welcome below.

Be sure to check back in tomorrow. I will be posting a "Peoples Choice" POLL, asking you to vote on a director for Iron Man 3. All the directors in the POLL will be come directly from your suggestions in yesterdays article.

im sorry but who says thor aint just gonna be another shitty marvel film, allll the trailers look good before the films come out,but thats only because they put the best bits in,i was going to say at least GL isnt just on earth, but neither is Thor, but most of marvels films have FAILED big time,Dc hasnt really had alot of movies out,how many has there been in the last 10 years, superman returns *fail but not a TOTALL fail*,2 batman films, cat woman *fail*,watchmen and jonah hex n thts it i think?
so because marvel has had alot of chances to make a good marvel film and they have done a fair bit of films, its actually failed alot more than its pleased fans,at least GL is another step for DC and i can bet its better than thor

I think GL will be better than Thor, but I don't want it to be.
I want Thor to be the best CBM ever! but let's face it, the odds are against it

look at the dc fanboys jump on thor because he won the polls.

thor is gonna be better because of the following reasons.

- better cast of actors/actress & director.

- the film is part of a shared universe its actually gonna lead into something much bigger i.e the avengers.

Green Lantern looks goofy, a shame DC can't quite learn from the success of the Batman series that fans want less camp. Thor, to my surprise, actually looks much more serious. I think they nailed it and am looking forward to watching the film, unlike GL which I am now dreading. Who knows, maybe it'll be the other way around...

I can't wait for BOTH of these movies but Thor just looks like an all around better film. Super hero movie? who knows but it looks like an actual REALLY good movie. Dark Knight, Spider-man 2, Iron man style good.

I like the tone of the thor trailer you can tell the director took this movie seriously and the effects that I did see were off the chain! And the fight scene between thor and destroyer is likely to go down in cmb history as one of the best. Gl just doesn't measure up to that. The cgi is iffy the jokes are lame and the lead actor is already annoying people and its was only a teaser trailer! A gl fan took out reynolds dialogue to make the trailer better and it was 10xs better lol smh. I want to see a good gl movie but so far it just doesn't look good I hope im wrong

Marvel VS DC
Based off of financial success and film reception.
Personally I wasn't very fond of the Spiderman franchise however financially they did well and were recepted very well.
Marvel:

Blade - Good/Good Reception
X-men - Good/Good Reception
Blade 2 - Good/Good Reception
Spiderman - Good/Good Reception
DareDevil - Good/Poor Reception
X2 - Good/Good
Hulk - Poor/Poor
The Punisher - Poor Financial/Poor Reception
Spiderman 2 - Good/Good
Elektra - Poor Financal/Poor Reception
Fantastic Four - Good/Poor Reception
X-Men: The Last Stand - Good/ Poor Reception
Ghost Rider - Good/ Poor Reception
Spiderman 3 - Good/ Poor Reception
Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer - Poor/Fair
Iron Man - Good/Good
The Incredible Hulk - Good/Good
Punisher: War Zone - Poor/Poor
X-men Origins: Wolverine - Good/Poor
Iron Man 2 - Good-Good

This goes to show that even if they make a crappy film it will ultimately be financially successful 9 out 10 times. On to DC.

DC:
Superman - Good/Good
Superman II - Good/Good
Superman III - Good/Poor
Superman IV - Poor/Poor
Superman Returns - Good/Poor
Batman - Good/ Good
Batman Returns - Good/Good
Batman Forever - Good/Poor Reception
Batman & Robin - Poor/ Poor
Steel - Poor/Poor
Catwoman - Poor/Poor
Batman Begins - Good/Good
The Dark Knight - Good/Good
Watchmen - Good/Good
Jonah Hex - Poor/Poor
The Road to Perdition - Good/Good
Constantine - Good/Fair
V for Vendetta - Good/Good
Stardust - Good/Good
A History of Violence - Good/Good
The Losers - Poor/Poor
The League of Extraordinary Gentleman - Good/Poor
Red - Good/Fair
The Spirit - Poor/Poor

There you have it, these are based on financial successes and approval ratings. It looks like they have both had their share of mishaps and flops. However even the worst films seem to make some money. Next summer will be off the chain with blockbusters and flops, and with so many it seems that some are not going to be successful as we might like and others more successful than we think!

Yes, the best trailer won. But may not necessarily the better movie.

Still, I root for Thor. Verily.

I think from the trailers Thor looks a bit better. If GL didn't have that silly fraking National Lampoons super hero house scene at the end..it just took me right out of the otherwise very godo trailer. Its very hard to tell from trailers though. Lets look at the directors. Campell is no slouch but Branagh clinches it. On the other hand lets look at teh cast. Reynolds has more experience, from what I have seen of Hemsworth, is better in general. Both have very strong supporting casts. Story? Well, I think GL might be easier to translate..certainly easier to sell to the general public.

I think(hope) they will both be great.

You know what bothers me most about Green Lantern as depicted in this live action take?

The Costume. And by costume I mean the CGI, it's, it's...offensive,gross. It's almost like, "Hal, uhm...Can you do something about the plum smuggling, like uhh...Ring up some pants or something, brah..."

On the other hand, our man Thor shows up in armour, looks like some one pissed in his Corn Flakes...Excellent.

And, question? When did Hal Jordan become so "witty"? I always thought he was little more serious, even glum. I mean, wasn't the comedic relief GL embodied in Guy Gardner?

I think the WB GL trailer is decent, but still prefer the fan made one on YT with 3 million plus hits better. The score, Fillion as Hal, even the costume...Fan-tastic.

THOR FTMFW!!!!!!!

Green Lantern is gonna fail, and when it does, unfortunately, WB will just go back to hiding behind Batman, because face it, that's the best they've done with DC. WB needs to pull the stick outa their ass and buck up. Green Lantern looks cheesy as hell, but they need to stop relying on Batman to pull in the #s.

If they want to make some mother [frick]ing money, they need to have a joined "DC Cinematic Universe," like Marvel, where (down the road), it can lead to a Justice League movie.

Right now, Marvel Studios are doing way better than WB with branching out their characters.
JohnTom88
JohnTom88 - 12/16/2010, 10:30 PM
Umm, I think "branching out characters" starts from the comic house itself. Marvel always have plenty more characters to market than DC, although DC have the more mainstream bigger characters.

I've always known Intruder to be an idiot but this is way outta his league.

Thor might do good but Green Lantern just is more commercial. We'll just have to wait and see. Apperantly Thor fans now got more to lose than GL fans. It would be a shame if Thor actually flopped and GL came out on top, which I am convinced it will.

BMP!
