THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER Star Tessa Thompson Clarifies Her Recent Comment About Valkyrie's Weird New Powers

Actress Tessa Thompson, who plays Valkyrie in upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe instalment Thor: Love and Thunder, has taken to social media to clarify a recent statement about her character's abilities.

Thor: Love and Thunder is set to debut in theaters on July 8th, almost five years since the release of its predecessor. Thor Ragnarok introduced us to Valkyrie, a former member of Asgard's elite guardians. For the most part, Valkyrie was just a standard Asgardian in terms of powers; she was super strong and durable.

However, the actress who plays Valkyrie recently appeared to reveal that the upcoming sequel will be expanding her skillset. One particularly out-there power that actress Tessa Thompson brought up was the ability to revive fallen allies while also possessing their bodies.

Given that Thompson was asked during the interview about her iteration of the character in particular, W Magazine as well as every other site that promptly shared the news assumed her answer also pertained to the Marvel Cinematic Universe version of Valkyrie. It turns out that's not the case, as Thompson has now clarified on social media.

It seems the actress was actually talking about powers that Valkyrie has had in the comics. "In talking about Valkyrie to W Magazine, I was talking generally about powers that are canon and that I loved in reading the comics and not about Thor: Love and Thunder. I shan't be a home for spoilers," Thompson captioned the post.

 Could this be backpedalling because she let something slip that she wasn't supposed to? Perhaps, but for now we'll just have to take her word for it and wait until Thor: Love and Thunder debuts in July to find out.

Definitely sounds like damage control to me. Why would the reporter be talking about her comic book iteration when she’s clearly in Thor: Love & Thunder and that movie is coming out soon.

@WruceBayne - Definitely sus.

But I can also see how this could've just been genuine miscommunication tbf.

Entertainment reporters are really awful with details that aren’t concrete facts provided to them in writing. I’ve worked for game and film production houses and while not interviewed myself, I’ve been witness to interviews that came out completely garbled in print because the reporters just don’t care to fact check something that isn’t “hard news”. They half-listened to what they were told, and then wrote what they thought people were saying… and the end result could be way off the mark.

I have no problem believing that in an interview Thompson specifically said something like “In the comics, my character…” and the interviewer just paid no attention to that qualifier. So I suspect that this is nothing.

It’s that past experience that makes me doubt any quote someone supposedly gave about a project unless I have the direct context of the surrounding conversation.

I think she's telling the truth, but all the same, for safety best backtrack.

The fact that it has almost been five years since Ragnarok is terrifying.

I hope what she said about the new powers actually does happen in L+T, could be a really fun story device

This will be the worst MCU film.

@MitcHendricks - Ragnarok is one of mcu best... Why would this one be one of the worst?

@MitcHendricks - most would disagree with you. It was one of a handful of the most profitable mcu films. And I find it to be better than some of the films that made more such as avengers 1-2

Far and away the worst casting choice in the MCU.
