GOTHAM: First Look At Paul Reubens As The Father Of 'The Penguin'

Last October we found put that Paul Reubens, AKA Pee-Wee Herman, would once again play Oswald Cobblepot's father after appearing as a different incarnation of the character in Batman Returns. Now, Gotham producer Danny Cannon has given us our first look at him in the role...

In a fun nod to Tim Burton's Batman sequel, Paul Reubens will play Oswald Cobblepot/the Penguin's (Robin Lord Taylor) poppa in an upcoming episode of Gotham. In that movie, Reubens' Tucker Cobblepot and his wife decide to throw a baby Penguin into the river rather than raise the evil little shit.

Obviously Penguin has a very different relationship with his mother Gertrude (Carol Kane) on the show, so it should be interesting to see how Mr. Cobblepot factors into things. Here's our first glimpse of the actor in his Gotham duds alongside Taylor, courtesy of Danny Cannon.

Gotham returns with all-new episodes, February 29th on FOX.

@fishyzombie

No, it's actually terrible. The Penguin was changed from a mob kingpin to a guy living in a sewer with black shit oozing out of his mouth.

Thanks, I might check it out when I have the chance. I do prefer Penguin being one of Batman's few sane villains rather than what I think they went for there. That is a sweet score though.

Batman Returns is outrageous in the right kind a way...but as a Batman film it's pretty bad.

Batman jams a bomb in a guy's pants and kills him.

Interesting. Can't wait to see more. I'm looking forward to the remainder of this and AGENTS OF SHIELD.

I hope they get John Glover to reprise his role as Dr. Jason Woodrue AKA the Floronic Man for Poison Ivy's origin.

Rosenbaum and Glover were so good in Smallville, the best part actually. It's almost criminal that they haven't found prominent roles on tv since...

@Darkknight2149 please don't mention Batman and Robin lol I was 11 years old when that movie came out in theaters and I still recall leaving the movie theater thinking '' Well this is the last nail in the coffin for the Batman franchise '' yeah good times hahahaha

@Pinocchio

Yeah, BATMAN & ROBIN was a truly terrible film. However, I think John Glover is a fantastic actor and I think that him playing the Floronic Man would be great casting for this series (despite his hammy acting in B&R, but let's face it, everybody looked terrible in that film).

Personally, I disliked all three of those films (even though I loved BATMAN '89). However, out of the three, BATMAN RETURNS is by far the best in my opinion.

Why does pee wee Herman look so much like Shia lebeouf... don't think I spelled that right... in that top picture wearing the monocle lol... anyways I love this show even if it is a complete mockery of my favorite CB hero... Herman at least looks the part even if he can't act

Love Batman 89 but that franchise started going downhill with Batman Returns. The acting was solid but the movie itself is bad.

I would have loved this article more if you just put that picture from Batman Returns up and said that was the first look. All-in-all, this'll be fun to watch. Gotham is the best show on television these days. Soon, however, it will be second to "The X-Files".

I like the homage but this isn't the character or actor to recycle. In a post I did several weeks back, I wrote a detailed bio concerning the way I would've brought Gotham to TV.

Here's my homage---

"Goony" Bob Hawkins
This is my homage to Burton's Batman. While it's not my favorite. It stands as a hallmark of the character. Bob 'the goon' Hawkins (as written in the information section on the box the toy comes in) was an original character that has strangly never seen attention outside of that movie. There, goon was the trusted right hand of JOKE Nicholson's JACKER whereas, here, he becomes the gun for hire of the Falcone family.

This show got way better after they killed off Will Smith's wife.
