BOX OFFICE: Early Tracking Indicates That ANT-MAN Will Be Yet Another Hit For Marvel

Guardians of the Galaxy exceeded expectations at the box office last year, but will Ant-Man do the same? Tracking is indicating a very BIG opening for the small hero, so hit the jump for details on how much the finale to Phase 2 is expected to earn when it opens on July 17th...

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ant-Man is tracking to open with as much as $65 million at the North American box office on July 17th. That would be a big win for the movie, especially as tracking two weeks ago was nearer the $55 million - $60 million range. As you can see from the Tweet below, it could potentially go even higher than that depending on the reviews and early word of mouth. Guardians of the Galaxy far exceeded expectations in 2014, so there's really no reason why Ant-Man can't and won't do the same. We'll just have to wait and see how thing go.

These numbers are comparable to both Captain America: The First Avenger and Thor, but as the movie is apparently considered more family friendly than those, it could easily overperform. Ant-Man's budget is said to be around the $130 million mark, so it being a hit won't be that difficult a task. Depending on how that plays out, don't be surprised to see Ant-Man 2 added to Phase 3.

The BO trackings this year have been a hot mess. They haven't been matching at all. It's pretty much a wait and see game with the BO now.

I'm actually expecting this movie to make around 70-75 mil which is just decent and Marvel would be pretty satisfied with. And as long as it's a good movie, i'm satisfied :)

The day a Marvel movie gets negative word of mouth will be the day it rains upside down.

The reason why it can't and won't do the same as GotG is because that movie coasted to success by hi-jacking beloved elements from pop culture. This movie has nothing of the sort going for it.

@oNosferatuZodd I would LOL if Ant-Man breaks Man of Steel's $668 mil .

I'm thinking $550 mil but I hope it does better if the film is that good.

Has visualiza seen the movie? Because he apparently knows the soundtrack and references well enough to affirm that

@TheRealRemyLebeau When was this?! Like $70-100 mil films? That would be great for Black Widow, Daredevil if he ever makes the jump, Runaways, etc et

@oNosferatuZodd It should be interesting how F4 does. It's coming out the week after Mission Impossible, it'll be the 4th weekend for ANT-MAN, Pixels' 3rd weekend. The week after has the NWA biopic, STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTION, and Guy Ritchie's The Man from U.N.C.L.E.,
