Kevin Feige Talks Edgar Wright's ANT-MAN Influence; Debunks AVENGERS: AOU Ending Spoilers

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige talks about Phase 3, why they decided to announce release dates stretching as far as 2019, how much of Edgar Wright's ideas and concepts will be used in Peyton Reed's Ant-Man, and how he feels about possible spoilers being leaked by certain sites...

In an interview with /Film, Kevin Feige was quizzed about the recent announcement of a number of release dates for Untitled Marvel Movie's reaching up until 2019. Though he has already confirmed that they know what each of those will more than likely be, the fact that they have yet to be revealed is apparently less important than singling out the dates in advance. "It’s because of the competitive landscape. It’s because if we don’t announce dates soon, somebody else is gonna announce and then the weekends will be gone. So that was really the onus. I was the one who said, “You sure you wanna do that before I go to a press junket and get asked what they are before Comic-Con?” But in the big picture, we just need to get those flags planted." When asked about Phase 3 potentially being much longer than 1 or 2, Feige wouldn't reveal much, but did say this: "The thing that I like most about that is basically that people know and care about our phases. It was something that I just made up at one point, maybe on the spot on some panel during a New York Comic-Con once or a San Diego Comic-Con once. Because nothing like this has ever been done before. And I wanted ways to characterize them so they didn’t feel like people were saying oh here we go, M.C.U. part 15 or 16. And yet at the same time, they weren’t just thinking there’s an Iron Man Trilogy, a Thor Trilogy, a Cap Trilogy. It’s all those things, but I like breaking it into these phases. And I like that people have adopted that."

As you may already know, Edgar Wright storyboarded the whole of Ant-Man before his departure, and while some changes to the script have obviously been made since, the movie will still have some of the British director's D.N.A. in terms of visuals. "It wasn’t the whole movie and there are new elements in the movie obviously, now, that [Wright] was not involved in. But there are some segments that are awesome and will be brought to life in some incarnation. Peyton [Reed] certainly has all that material and is a talented enough and a secure enough guy to notice if something is really cool and go “No reason to change that, that’s great.” Or if he’s got his own spin on something to go and adapt it from there." Talk then turned to those recent spoilers about the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron which claimed that the Hulk would at one point be shot into space by Ultron and that would lead to the Green Goliath potentially teaming up with the Guardians of the Galaxy before returning to Earth with them for Avengers 3.

"It depends what it is," he said when asked if he gets frustrated when sites leak plot details. Feige debunked those reports about Avengers: Age of Ultron's ending. "If it’s something that’s incorrect, like that, we don’t worry about it. And if it’s something that’s correct, we usually don’t worry about it.
Because you’re not gonna alter your plans based on something [written online]. We’ve had things that have been spoiled that are annoying, but you move on with life and you find for the most part it’s really only a select group of us that are obsessing about these things. Which we, even I have a tendency to forget sometimes. Like for instance, if I was a huge Hunger Games fan, I’m sure there’s a website I can go to and have everything spoiled about coming up. But I’m not and I go see the movie and I go “Oh cool, that’s a surprise.” If I talk to a fan and they go, “Yeah, I knew that two years ago.” Or you can read the book in that case. It’s just about knowing you can’t control those things. And then there are some things that I’m happy haven’t gotten out. Stuff that’s coming up that hasn’t gotten out that people don’t know anything about. And, you know, going back to last year, had the Mandarin twist been revealed in Iron Man 3, it would have been a disaster. And the fact that it didn’t made me very happy."

Remember Phoeny- whenever you're unsure of what to do or say, think of what I'd do.. then do the exact opposite of that. I might be a charmer with a heart of gold, but I'm about the worst possible role model you can imagine.

That's why ya love me, though, am I right, Phoeny?

So you're telling me that the excuse of ElMayimbe of "maybe they'll change that because I reveal it" is just bullshit?

I hate spoilers with a passion and I'll never understand why people go running to them before they see a film. I guess it's like drinking, you can either handle/hold your liquor (spoilers) or you can't.

staryeezus- did you see the shit he put on twitter the last few days? he said it was his final reveal and basically wrote down everything he has made up for what will happen in avengers 2. half of it contradicts what we know from TWS and iron man 3. and he says bullshit about the mandarin taking control of the presidents body, and then ultron killing the president and then shield, hydra, the avengers and the world team up against ultron. the guy is a complete idiot.
