In the latest issue of Cleveland Magazine, focused on Northeastern Ohio, where partial filming for Marvel's highly-anticipated film The Avengers is taking place, comic writer Brian Michael Bendis briefly praises the Joss Whedon-written screenplay. And also sharing vague thoughts on Captain America: The First Avenger, read the interview excerpt below.

What can you tell us about The Avengers?
"Yeah, I'm a consultant on it. Best job ever, maybe? I'm very excited it's hapening there [Cleveland], man. It's an amazing screenplay. And I don't hype frivolously. I think it's the best thing Joss Whedon's ever written. I was in awe of it, and I still am.

What can you say about Captain America: The First Avenger?
"I've seen it, and it was great. Red Skull, played by Hugo Weaving, is a really good villain, probably the best from Marvel [Studios]."'

Marvel's The Avengers picks up when an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security. And Nick Fury, director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. With director Joss Whedon at it's helm, and an ensemble cast including Chris Evans (Steve Rogers), Robert Downey Jr. (Tony Stark), Chris Hemsworth (Thor Odinson), Jeremy Renner (Clint Barton), Mark Ruffalo (Bruce Banner), Scarlett Johansson (Natasha Romanoff), Clark Gregg (Agt. Phil Coulson), Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), with Tom Hiddleston (Loki), and Stellan Skarsgard (Professor Erik Selvig), the film releases worldwide May 4, 2012!

Nomis: considering Bendis' credibility as a writer with experience on the Avengers, I doubt he'd exaggerate about the quality of a movie based on the title. He'd probably wouldn't have brought up his consulting job if he thought it sucked.

Hmm the EIC of Marvel, saying his product is awesome, of course it is you work for marvel

you have to say it's awesome, want to hear someone from Image or DC or even someone

who has no clue what the avengers are saying it's awesome, it's like ascking walt Disney

what's a better ride, its a small world or the hulk ride ( pre Disney buying marvel)

He has to say small world.
On another note I am so stoked for both movies regardless what anyone else says.

Bendis is one of my favorite writers. He is one of the few that can write something that i can both lol at and take seriously at the same time.

Bendis to stay afar...??? you must be thinking about Geoff Johns. Bendis did something to the Avengers. he made it current and relevant for today's readers, even converted some non-marvel fans, like me, along the way.

and keep in mind. he's consulting Joss Whedon, a fellow fan insider, unlike Johns, who's "consulting" (read: telling) an outsider, like Martin Campbell. so, i won't worry too much that Joss would be Bendis' puppet. i can already see the two are collaborating greatly to produce the BEST super hero epic of em all.

I like Bendis. His version of Spider-Man is great. His work on Avengers is good too. Except I don't understand why he always makes Spidey say "oy." I don't think of Spider-Man as being Jewish.
Just sayin...
