In Toronto to promote his new film The Town, Renner revealed that he accepted the Avengers role of Hawkeye largely because playing a comic book character is one of the few options left for an actor working today.

"Well comic book movies are the only movies being made" he told IGN. "They don't make films like The Town very often do they?"

Renner explained that he is still waiting on the yet-to-be-written script, and will catch up on the comics and undergo a rigorous training regime before the film's 2011 shoot.

The Avengers is set to come to theaters May 4th, 2012.

most likely his going to use the guns and bow and arrows for the movie. but yeah Ultimate costume makes sense for The Avengers movie.

as much as i love the idea of Jeremy Renner playing the role of Hawkeye, so far for me he has shown almost no passion for the role.
y'know as much i love the 616 costume, i understand the need for something realistic. but as soon as rumors started to surface about Renner, he said he would never "wear purple." which is Hawkeye's signature color, be it 616 or Ultimate.
i'm not saying he won't nail the part, but i am saying that imo he isn't giving the comics their due. and in that respect, he may miss something vital to the character of Clint Barton.
i'm praying that over time, Renner will come to love the character as much as if not more than we humble fans do.

He doesn't even have a script yet. Surely after that his enthusiasm will pickup.

They need to portray Hawkeye as so good with a bow he doesn't need guns. That is one thing I liked about the Ultimate version when they first introduced him. He'd have a dozen arrows in the air before someone else could even get their gun drawn.

@Wadey09 i agree with u dude! i like him 4 Hawkeye... but not sure if he knows enough about the character but he said he'd catch up with the comics... so hopefully by avengers he'll be good...

Wadey09@ I know what you mean. His statement about cbm's being the only gig in town may or may not be true, but the way he says it it comes across as, "I better take this role, or I'll be out of work for the next six months".

Yes, but bullets don't stop most Avengers villains. Maybe an explosive/sonic/acid/ice arrow would. Hard to fit that tech into a bullet, right?

weneedrevelation - yeah,that's the issue. They're going to have to show him as basically having superhuman reaction time or some other kind of system for getting the arrow to the bow. They again, they made Legolas look pretty bad@$$ in Lord of the Rings, remember?

@MassExecutions "they made Legolas look pretty bad@$$ in Lord of the Rings, remember?" Hell yeah they did. There's the reference point right there. If they can make Renner a non-gay-elf version of Legolas in a well designed costume they'll hit the nail on the head pretty easily. Some of the coolest moments in LOTR were him showing off how badass he was with that bow.

Legolas could shoot the bow quick in LOTR but he looked very gay and acted very gay as well, in fact the only Elves that did not seem gay were the females!!

Is it true that some arrows are more likely to penetrate kevlar body armor than bullets? It seems like I've hear that about knives. Then again, I don't think most body armor can stop decent rifle rounds.

Booooooooooooo! You should be in a sequel. Original Avengers for the first film. I love Hawkeye, but this is not right!
