“It’s hard to make a good movie,” Zak states “We all have the best intentions, and it still might suck.”
Zak Penn has been handed the task of writing The Avengers screen play this summer. Is it a difficult script? Yes. Will it stop Zak from writing the difficult script? No. Penn has already written X2: X-Men United” and “X-Men: The Last Stand. Penn is no stranger to a ensemble cast. Believe it or not Penn wanted to include more Marvel characters in those films but as Zak says he planned to incorporate the Fantastic Four into the X-Men movies. Unfortunately and to no one's surprise (cuz this was a great idea) Fox was not to chipper to let that idea fly.
Zak goes on to say “Marvel wants to see that they're all connected, not like the Fantastic Four can't come into the X-Men world, like I was told by Fox,” Penn also revealed that he'd be involved in the development process of “Thor” and “The First Avenger: Captain America,” both of which will bow before “The Avengers.”
“I'm taking a meeting next week with the ‘Thor’ and ‘Captain America’ people, and we are all going to get together, and I will see what is going to happen,” Zak states. “I'll see where they are leaving the characters; it’s pretty complicated.”
Even if "The Avengers" is a complete flop (which it wont be) Penn has said that the film is in the very best of hands. Zak praised Marvel's work as a studio so far, saying that marvel's knowledge of the source material is the secret to their success (hmm that line sounds familiar).
“Marvel is autonomous now,” Penn states. “It is night and day: Everyone has read every comic. They know how to make a cool movie.”
