After making her debut as an older take on Captain Marvel's Monica Rambeau in WandaVision, Teyonah Parris reprised the role on the big screen in Nia DaCosta's The Marvels as one third of the titular superhero team alongside Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) and Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani).
After a somewhat awkward reunion with her "Aunty Carol," Monica was able to forgive Captain Marvel for breaking her promise to return after the events of the first movie, and the three heroes managed to get their "switching" under control in order to defeat Dar-Benn.
Rambeau was able to close the rift between worlds created by the villain's Quantum Bands, but ended up trapped in another timeline, where she encountered a couple of surprising faces (more here).
The cast were unable to do any promotion for the movie during the strikes, but Parris has now shared an Instagram video which sees her excitedly trying on her "super-suit" for the first time.
"Nothing like that first suit up, baaaabaaayy!!," she captioned the post. 'Little Teyonah' is geeeekin' and 'Big Teyonah' cannot believe this country, chocolate gal, with big kinky hair, and thick thighs is suited- n -booted in a @marvelstudios superhero film struttin' in Ms. #MonicaRambeau's knee high boots!! 😳 Yall... AAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!! Soooo many artists contributed to the thousands of moving parts to make this incredibly fun film and I'm honored and grateful for all of them and for the opportunity to be a small part!! 🖤🖤🖤"
Surprisingly, Monica didn't settle on a superhero monicker in the movie, despite Ms. Marvel throwing out some suggestions, including Spectrum (we prefer Professor Marvel).
Check out the video below.
"In Marvel Studios’ The Marvels, Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe. When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece, now S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau. Together, this unlikely trio must team up and learn to work in concert to save the universe as The Marvels.”
The film also stars Zawe Ashton and Park Seo-joon. Nia DaCosta directs, and Kevin Feige is the producer. Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Mary Livanos and Matthew Jenkins serve as executive producers. The screenplay is by Megan McDonnell, Nia DaCosta, Elissa Karasik and Zeb Wells.
The Marvels will begin its international rollout on November 8, and was recently granted a China release on November 10, day-and-date with North America.
