COMICS: Marvel Unveils Intriguing Teaser And Details For "Iron Man No More"

Writer Matt Fraction and Marvel have revealed plans for 'Long Way Down', an upcoming arc in Invincible Iron Man which will see the hero quit and the debut of an all new Iron Man!

Things are not going well for Tony Stark. Since sacrificing his sobriety during Fear Itself, he finds himself pursued by The Mandarin, Ezekiel Stane and several of his other foes now sporting upgraded tech. Oh, and let's not forget the smear campaign being run against him in the press and the fact he has a traitor in 'Stark Resilient'. Well, things are about to get worse.

As we’ll see at the end of 'Demon,' General Babbage, [Tony’s] primary antagonist at the Pentagon, and Justine Hammer of HAMMER Industries, present Tony with an ultimatum," writer Matt Fraction told Marvel. Accepting it is the only way he can remain in control of the Iron Man without losing everything. And Tony very quickly finds that arrangement to be unacceptable. The ramifications of that are what 'Long Way Down' is all about."

"So basically...Tony quits."

Kicking off in Invincible Iron Man #516, this story will be, "The third act. The grand finale. The beginning of the end. The finale pages of INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #513 [are] a double page spread that harkens back to our very first issue—a showcase of the full scope and scale of the rogues we’ll see Iron Man going up against in the next year. Mandarin’s five-year plan is finally bearing fruit."

and seriously Marvel? is this actually working? i mean, i don't look at sales numbers, did it help with Johnny Storm? Ultimate Spider-Man? Captain America(actually a good story though)? didn't they just do something with Thor also where he was supposed to be replaced?

i get that you can be too close to the forrest to see the trees but eventually you'd walk into one right? this is getting very annoying and old.

Been done so many times before it's ridiculous. Its not the first time Tony's given up the suit before anyway. Plus Fraction is writing it which puts a downer on things despite Larroca's art being to die for. But Intruder will probably hail this as the most original and innovative idea for centuries and that something like this can only be measured up by the second coming of Christ....

This WILL NOT last. Tony has been in all sorts of situations where he can not or does not want to wear the suit any longer. And this has been going on a lot lately in comics, and frankly is starting to get old. There seem s to be this huge obsession with having characters die or quit. This will last a year or so, and Tony will once again be back piloting the armor. I'll still read it anyways, because Fraction and Larroca have delivered an awesome run so far. Between this and Deadpool supposedly dieing, I'm a bit bummed though.

i guess there is nothing we can say or do about it. The end of Iron Man was tried before with miserable results. Remember how Heroes reborn erased that mistake? Everyone is right here in saying that the Fraction team will do a nice job of it and yes Tony will be back in a year or two because eveyone will be sick of whatever replacement they come up with. Probablt the Fraction team has allready forseen way ahead at bringing him back and mapped it out. I say do this kind of gimmicky crap in the Ultimate Universe and stop being cute with our heroes.

I don't agree that fraction will do a good job. he's a terrible writer with very few original ideas. iron man hasn't been good since he took over writing.
