EDITORIAL: The Other Marvel/Netflix Shows That I Want To See

We know that Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist are all getting Netflix shows that'll eventually lead to The Defenders, but which other characters are worthy of a series? The Superguy shares his thoughts after the jump.

So by now we all know about the Marvel/Netflix universe. Right now, it consists of Daredevil, Iron Fist, Luke Cage, and Jessica Jones. After that, they will all team up in a Defenders show. Even though these series will likely take up a couple of years of programming, I'm wondering what will happen after the Defenders. There are so many places to go and so many great characters that deserve their own show. So here is what I'd like to see from Marvel and Netflix after the Defenders.

Season 2- The one thing I was worried about when they announced the Defenders team up show was that we might not see a second season for any of the series. I was worried that each show was intended as a mini-series, to be concluded with the Defenders. I really hope that that is not the case, and that Marvel/Netflix are planning on continuing the stories of Daredevil, Iron Fist, Luke Cage, and Jessica Jones. Now, they have said that if the characters are popular on Netflix, that they could get their own movies. If the shows are in fact mini-series, I would love to see the stories continued in film.

Punisher- Frank Castle is the perfect character for a television series. The budget wouldn't have to be too big, there wouldn't have to be too many special effects, and if you've ever read a Punisher comic, you know how well the stories could be adapted to television. The fact that you can get away with a lot more on Netflix helps, too. Personally, I would love to see the Garth Ennis "Welcome Back, Frank" story arc adapted for the first season. While parts of it were adapted for the 2004 Punisher film (in particular the Russian fight sequence), if they actually adapted the storyline as the first season of a television show, it would be the perfect way to reintroduce Frank Castle.

Ghost Rider- Another character that would fit perfectly into this darker, more mature part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After the universally negative reception of 2012's Ghost Rider 2, I could see why Marvel would be hesitant to give the Spirit of Vengeance another chance. But like I said, the Netflix shows look to be darker and more adult than the superhero films they are connected to, so this would be the perfect place to reintroduce Ghost Rider to the general public. And I have an idea on how to do it, too.

If you're a Ghost Rider fanboy like me, you know that Johnny Blaze is not the only person to take the mantle of Ghost Rider. Another notable character was Danny Ketch, who was introduced in the early 90's. The Johnny Blaze series had ended a few years ago. While that book had horror elements to it, it was still a relatively kid friendly series. The Danny Ketch relaunch was darker, and aimed more at teenagers and adults. While not as dark Ghost Rider would later become under the direction of writers like Garth Ennis, it was still fairly adult, and leaned more towards Miller's Daredevil as opposed to other books like Spider-Man or Fantastic Four.

So I think that the early Danny Ketch issues would be the perfect source material for a dark, mature Ghost Rider show. You could bring in villains like Blackout, and even have a Kingpin cameo. Later in the series, they could introduce Johnny Blaze as a supporting character. This could eventually lead to a spin-off/prequel film about Johnny Blaze as the Ghost Rider. Finally, since Ghost Rider is a supernatural character, you could have a Blade cameo, which brings me to my next subject.

Blade- Blade has previously had a film trilogy starring Wesley Snipes, so the general audience is already aware of the character. But instead of doing a reboot movie, I think they should reboot Blade as a Netflix series. Even though he fights vampires, Blade is a pretty street level character, and would fit in perfectly with the likes of Daredevil and Luke Cage.

Man-Thing- I know he has been mentioned in Agents of SHIELD, but I think the character would be better portrayed on a Netflix show, as opposed to a prime time ABC show. Man-Thing's a pretty dark character, and most of his comics lean more towards the horror genre as opposed to the superhero genre. And that's how I think his show should be. The tone should be more like an Evil Dead type horror movie, instead of being forced to fit in with the lighter tone of Agents of SHIELD.

Well, those are the characters that I want to see as Netflix shows. I'm pretty excited about the Marvel/Netflix partnership, and I can't wait to see what they have in store for us. Thanks for reading!

I tried predicting who you'd suggest before I read it and got two right, Punisher and Blade. With a good enough budget, I could see a Ghost Rider show working and I reckon if Constantine is a success then Marvel might be open to it as they're very similar properties.

A Man-Thing show? I dunno about that unless it was a proper horror show like American Horror Story and I don't really know where you could take it storywise unless you went the whole Beauty and the Beast route.

A Blade show would kick ass and there's no denying that.

Great great article!!! I never thought of Ghost Rider as a TV series, but that would be awesome. Punisher is a must for sure. Blade needs to be a show too, the series with sticky fingaz was decent. The Ghost Rider idea is really good. Especially with Strange coming soon.

I want to see Punisher appear in Daredevil. DD goes after a mysterious vigilante killing criminals in Hell's Kitchen.

Make it a two parter. The first episode is DD tracking the "killer". Then the episode ends with an explosiin knocking DD off his feet. Then in walks a shadowy figure. The camera pans up from the "killer's" feet and stops on a giant skull on his chest. Episode ends.

How epic would that be?

After his appearance in Daredevil then they could spin him off in his own series.

How about they make an actual TV Show instead of on Netflix

I'd actually like to see a Moon-Knight TV series, he's already been mentioned in Captain America The Winter Soldier and all that needs to be done is introduce him. I honestly think that potential from Moon Knight is huge and if done with the right tone, actors and script it would be a hit. A mercenary that's on the verge of death and is saved by becoming the avatar of the Egyptian moon god. That's one hell of a way to end a synopsis!

I also know that Moon Knight got a redesign, but I hope that when Moon Knight actually does make an appearance in the MCU he looks like this instead.

Just look at how much of a BAMF he is in this costume!

@deus a Moon Knight show would be heaven. I remember when the Blade TV series was going on spike, they were talking about doing a Moon Knight TV series. The only thing I worry about is how tamed will it be? Spector is but, which is why I love him. He has always been one of my favorites since a kid. Khonshu is a very underrated character, but I am unsure if we will get the true Khonshu, but we have never gotten any type of live or animated version, so I will be grateful with whatever we get.

@ dethpillow

I honestly want them to recast Spider-man again if Spidey is going to appear on Netflix. Not a big fan of Garfield at all for this role.

This would be my ideal season 2 lineup:
1. Punisher
2. Ghost Rider
3. Moon Knight
4. Shang Chi

Oh adding on to that, a Daughters of the Dragon show starring Misty Knight and Coleen Wing would be great and showcase strong female characters.

Nobody ever seems to bring up the fact that there was already A live-action Blade television series.

Anyways, a resounding "Yes!" to all those characters, with the inclusion of Moon Knight.

So glad to see someone else wants a Man-Thing show. Make it just like the original Steve Gerber series and you'd have a hit on your hands. It'd be the perfect place for such characters as Howard the Duck to show up in, too.
TheBrotherhood

Most of the characters mentioned in this article are Midnight Sons so you can integrate those characters into the world of Dr. Strange, for the other parts I think the best ones would be MOON KNIGHT and spin-offs from the 4 previous series.

But again, hopefully we could have a SECRET AVENGERS spin-off film one day.

Line-up would be:

Commander Rogers
Black Widow
War-Machine
Beast
Ant-Man
Moon Knight
Valkyrie

I agree with everyone who mentioned Moon Knight. He would be an excellent vehicle for a Netflix series. I think there were already plans in place for a series or introducing him during the Blade TV series. He was mentioned by Randy Quaid as " My colleague Mark Spektor ..." during a werewolf discussion on the show.

Netflix has the potential now to bring more Marvel characters to life, hopefully with accurate representations of the costumes, unlike most of what we saw on Smallville. Hawkman was quite well done though; a few others came close.

I was mad that the Blade show that was on Spike had got canceled. Sticky Fingers was no Wesley Snipes but the show got pretty damn good towards the end.

I definitely agree with some of the comments above that a Moon Knight series would be awesome. Also if Winter Soldier is going to be Cap in the movies it would be cool to do a mini series that tells us happens to Bucky before the movie. Also doubt it Jeremy Renner would do it but I would love to see a Hawkeye series.
