Fans angry at DC's planned Relaunch of its entire 52 titles are organising a protest on the Saturday of Comic-Con International.

The Facebook page reads:

Are you utterly baffled, disappointed and just ANGRY to see how DC ruins your favorite character's design and wipes decades of comic history out of the mainstream universe? Well, you're not alone!
And why not make some noise at the biggest pop-culture event this year, where creators, artists and writers appear in person - show them how fans - the fans of the classic characters, the (nevertheless slightly changing) designs, the character's history and personality - really feel about it!

Like many of you, most of the issues seem to be with the redesigns of the characters as well as wiping away years of continuity and past DCU stories.

If you want to check out the details of the event, the Facebook page can be found HERE

The only thing people SHOULD be protesting is to stop people from talking shit about Green Lantern in every other conversation.

I'm not too pissed about Superman's wardrobe change. Remember people, his suit has remained relatively unchanged for the 70+ years of his existence. Yeah I get there were slight changes and modifications in the design of his suit and the "S" shield but generally...he remained the same-

Besides, change is inevitable with a character as old as Superman. I wasn't too angry about his rebooted look. Yeah it looks dumber than the regular look but who cares, they'll try it out for him and when it fails, they'll bring him back to his rightful look. Why bother protesting and disturbing the peace?

You're one of us. lol

I mean you have what I'm guessing is- yourself as GL on your avatar.

it's probably going to be pretty futile. the first books are already written and drawn. they're not going to go back to the way things were unless critical reception and sales of the reboots are bad.
PaulRom
PaulRom - 6/29/2011, 3:34 PM
@Jazzman How about we have ONE comment thread on CBM without the words 'Green Lantern' in it? Every comment thread I see on here is just bitching and moaning that GL wasn't as good as expected. EVERY COMMENT THREAD.

when milestone was doing the character he was good

@PaulRom

this thread about DC and their characters so its fair to mention him. their is no rules that i cant mention GL.

@BIGBMH- That's exactly what I was saying in my earlier comment. It's lame to protest. I mean, I figure DC will try the new/rebooted look for these characters then...once they find the new looks aren't selling then they'll probably bring the JLA back to their classic looks.

Like I said...Superman's isn't TOO bad. Yeah it looks dumb but maybe it'll look better the more they try it out in print.

I'm one of the few on this site, open-minded enough to see how it works out. I'm not going to condemn the damn thing before they even TRY it.

Superman is a really old character...70+ years old...i figured DC would eventually wanna try something different.

This is the most stupid thing I have ever heard about modern fanboys. I'm incredibly dissapointed in all of them. Just imagine... what if fans of the 80s had a mass protest against Crisis or Dark knight or Watchmen. These comics haven't even come out yet for one thing and for another DC continuity is not exactly something sacred to be cherished. It's not 616, it's an absolute mess. It desperately needs a reboot and a revamp. What they are doing may be because they are getting pressure from WB, but that just means that it needs to be done to save the comics industry and the DC canon at the same time and bring it into the future.

@DukeAcureds- I agree with you. I'm a DC-fanboy but I don't see the problem with DC trying something new out for a change.

Like i said- DC will try the new looks...once it flunks, they'll go back to the old looks of the JLA. Simple as that. It happens everytime. Superman became Blue Energy Supes for a while...because DC wanted to try something new out (in terms of his look and powers)...then look fans complained so DC went back to the classic. DC does this every time. It's nothing new.

I don't know why some fans hate everything new?!
LP4
LP4 - 6/29/2011, 3:50 PM
@MrNoFear- Thank you. I was saying the same thing. DC for the most part, has kept pretty classic with the characters for most of their existence. Like I said- Superman has remained relatively unchanged for the past 70+ years.

That's a [frick]ing long time. DC felt it was time to try something new out. I don't see why everyone has to be so up in arms about that.

@Solomon- Yeah i agree. They hate on anything/everything new. I'm a DC-fanboy. But I just want to see new stuff for once. You keep getting served the same baked-potato for the past 10 years of your life...you're going to get sick of it. So why not order something new? Right?

It'll eventually go back. over a little time everything will return to how its pretty much always been, like it always does. and i like some of the costumes.

that´s so stupid the new suit is soo Cool
ultimatefan1974
ultimatefan1974 - 6/29/2011, 3:52 PM
the elephant in the room that people don´t wanna talk about is all that companies are doing is desperate moves to salvage a dying format. They can´t get new fans cuz characters are bogged down by decades of convoluted continuity and there´s a whole generation out there who only knows the characters from movies and tv shows and don´t relate them to the current comics. And the hardcores -the ones who still buy the books- get pissed whenever they try to change looks and reboot continuity to attract new readers.

Can't they just realize that they can't do anything about it?
ArtisticErotic

@ultimatefan1974

So very true. If DC and Marvel want new readers, they need to start creating new characters and stories and stop relying on their age old characters. I love the superhero genre but seriously it's time to move on to the new things now.

Also this protest won't work if anything it will just provoke DC to further their relaunch. Fans you need to realize that comic books change with the times, they always have and always will. Bronze age, Silver age Golden age now it's time for a new age. I'm thinking Platinum age??? Lol sounds kind of dumb though.
