Nicolas Cage recently stated that he is unlikely to reprise his role as Johnny Blaze in a third
Ghost Rider movie, saying that he is done with the franchise despite thinking that it was a financial success. But what does the actor - who very nearly played Superman and was offered the role of Scarecrow - think of his potential future in the comic book movie genre? Speaking with
Hey U Guys while promoting Dreamworks'
The Croods (out this Friday), Cage is asked if there are any other characters he would be interested in playing. Even though he's "open to anything", he doesn't sound like he's in a hurry to return to the genre. However, he does suggest that he'd be interested in playing a certain Sorcerer Supreme.
"I'm open to anything. I just, y'know, want to try something else, try something new. Doctor Strange is interesting, but I don't know. Right now I'm in a phase where I'm more interested in going back to my roots and doing independently spirited dramatic films. That's sort of what I'm in process with right now. I don't really see another comic book film anytime soon."
Interestingly, director Roman Coppola (
Inside The Mind Of Charles Swan III) wanted to make a
Doctor Strange film back in the 90s, and thought that Cage would be perfect for the role of the Marvel character. With plans for a movie based on the Sorcerer Supreme set for Marvel's Phase Three, would you like to see Cage in the role?
