Potter takes himself out of The Hobbit Race!

Daniel Radcliffe says he won't play Bilbo Baggins...

The young actor spoke to MTV when the whole 'David Yates directing The Hobbit rumor was going around (Yates directed the last few Potter flicks) and Radcliffe says he has no intentions on switching Fantasy franchises anytime soon.



"I don't think I would be asked to play Bilbo," said Radcliffe.

Radcliffe also spoke on the rivalry that nerd tribes have waged war over, for a decade now - Lord of the Rings vs. Harry Potter.

"It's a ridiculous rivalry completely built up by the media, but I certainly would be wary of getting involved in another magical fantasy franchise."

You can check out Radcliffe as he plays a soldier in the upcoming All Quiet on the Western Front.

I bet he means That he would be "weary" of getting involved with another fantasy franchise.

God I am so sick of seeing his stupid face. I bet he does one of those "serious" male prostitute movies after Potter's ship has sailed. Then he spends the rest of his life at conventions and doing C-grade sci-fi movies.

I am confused. "I don't think I would be asked to play Bilbo," said Radcliffe... is not the same thing as saying he has no intention to play the part. Saying he would be wary does not compute to being a "won't play the part". Just saying...it is amazing how words can be twisted.

I think he's doing the smart thing. His only big role so far has been harry. He wants to have a long career, so he can't just do another fantasy movie. He has to separate himself fromthe genre, at least for a while, so that people don't close him off and think he can't do anything else.

He has cashed in big time playing Harry Potter, he really doesnt need to do anything. No matter what he does, everyone will always say Harry Potter when they see him in a movie.

And if he was Bilbo, I would just be going why am I seeing Harry Potter in this, so no matter what hes always Harry Potter.

Good actor but I think because of the whole Harry Potter vs. Lord of the Rings rivalry that the media created, I don't think they will offer him a role in The Hobbit because of it.

.... Dude, what films have you been watching? All the Harry potthead films where rubbish, so predictable and dull and his acting wasnt much better. I am of the firm belief that he will be typecast as potthead and not be able to pull off anything else!

He would be a rubbish choice to be in the Hobbit! The film deserves a better calibre of actor to play Bilbo!

Wow, I seriously don't get the hatred in this place. Especially since Daniel Radcliffe is one of the few teenaged actors wout there with REAL talent. And besides it's not his fault the last HP flicks are total rubbish. Half Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows were so badly written, I have to wonder if Rowling even really bothered with them.

Anyway, it's not like it's devastating news that he won't be playing Bilbo Baggins. It would be better for him anyway to distance himself away from the fantasy franchises for a while.

All that said, I can't wait to see him in All Quiet On the Western Front. That book made me cry so hard.

Yeesh, the some of the commentors in this post have seriously lost much of my respect. I mean, yeah, I can get not being a fan of the HP movies (I personally don't like them much since they're not exactly faithful adaptations of the books in general), but Daniel Radcliffe comes across to me as probably one of the most benign people ever. In interviews, he actually comes across as smart and funny, and even if he might only be remembered as "Harry Potter", it's still better than nothing. I'd like to see one of you try to get a movie part that is truly iconic and be remembered for it. PM me when you do.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I think I'll go watch his other non-HP movie, the December Boys.
