With the scrutiny of the first trailer and the release date rapidly approaching Warner Brothers has decided to up Green Lantern's VFX budget by another 9 million dollars. There is no worry that this will affect the release date of the film and WB are shrugging off that there are any problems with the film.

Says Chris De Faria, Warner's executive VP of digital production:

"There is no problem on Green Lantern. We try to add things to make the movie better until the 11th hour. That doesn't mean we're risking the movie up to the 11th hour."

Sony Imageworks and Rising Sun Pictures are the primary special FX companies working of the film and according to Variety's source they are delivering on time. De Faria has also stated that one sequence that was entirely CG had been cut in the development of the film, but after the studio saw an early cut of the film it was added back in and that Pixomondo was hired to complete the scene.

Green Lantern is scheduled to come out on June 17, 2011

so warners isn't happy with the effects so they've given them more money to make them look better.

lets hope they improve on what we've seen so far.

Those special fx guys like to hold studios hostage with medicor graphics. $9 million for what? I can't imagine what could possibly cost that much...it's not like theres more than 30-40 people working 24/7 till the day before the release. This is what's wrong with modern cinema...greedy F'n bastards.

Well I was impressed when I saw the 4 minute trailer, but if they can make it look even better, then I'm down with that! Should be pretty mind blowing when this is all said and done.

better than SW ep II yes, but still very cheap/cheesey looking. its not the money thats the issue its the SFX house. they shouldve gone with WETA or ILM. and now they are literally paying for it.

I wish they would save the money on the effects and just clean up his costume and lantern (which they probably can't do because all the toys and merchandise is already completed in the current ugly movie design.)

The alien lantern is just off and uninspiring.

I'm surprised no one photoshopped a better costume, at least one without all those ugly lines and with him having boots instead of naked feet. We've seen some photoshopped costumes of Ryan Reynolds in a Red Lantern uniform, I'd like to see someone photoshop a better costume than WB.

Really, it shouldn't be that hard.

Spending an extra $9 million to improve VFX should be a good thing. Why are people making it into ANOTHER Marvel versus DC thing??

I'm very much looking forward to this film,I was blown away by the 4 minute trailer and If we all look in an unbiased way I think we can all agree GL gave the coolest, kick ass trailer (4 min).
All in all it's good that they are giving more money which can only do more good.I'm sure like in a game they are polishing up the visual effects now.It also clearly shows that they don't mind the budget going up and that they are confident about the movie story.Otherwise in business sense they would have just given it away without incurring any more loses if they thought the product at hand is a poor one.Since bad stories rarely make money. (eg - batman and robin barely made over $ 100 mil after opening for $ 40 mil+,etc)
I personally didn't see much fault with the visuals in the 4min trailer but that's me,and hopefully this will please many more and we will get a good fun GL movie like star trek.

Not too surprising considering the net has been filled with scepticism since that first trailer.

Now that they´re redoing it, i wish the Green Lanterns leave TRAILS, just like Tron´s light cycles.

Or like, the ghosts in Ghostbusters, when the vault exploded.

The constructs could be more like Kyle Ryner´s, absurd and fun.

Hope that in GL2 they ditch Hal and bring in Kyle for some real construct fun.

@andrew13 - What else would you like to do to a "Projected by a Power Ring" (CGI) Suit??? i think is OK and i don't think it should look real because thats the whole concept of the ring, isn't it? my only complain of the suit is the mask, i would like to see that mask changed and put it like the one in the comics, but it seems to much to ask.............even 9millions in other scenes!
andrew13
andrew13 - 4/26/2011, 10:26 AM
I would like to see a ring that projects a suit that doesn't have those lines all over it. They are an eyesore, kind of like when your tv goes on the fritz and you have those lines going across the screen.

Also, no one needs to see his bony, bare feet. That's another eyesore. Unless WB is trying to remake the Flintstones, which didn't go over to well either.

this is awesome! Basically they said we wanted to put more action in so they went back and cut a whole scene back in! Yes!

I'm all for good VFX but unless this movie has a solid story it's going to prove all the nay-sayers right. I still think it looks promising.

I just hope they don't do too much to change the suit. Who needs shoes in space anyways? Looks cool like it is.

+1@ComicCritic87... Looks like someone over there is getting nervous about Green Lantern footsies and baby belly button special FX aye???

I want this to be a great movie but I have to admit-some of the "humor" in the trailers kind of makes it seem childish in a way, or that immature. Although I'm sure it may be integral go the plot-a Green Lantern should be strong and with an imposing will. Some of these trailers make him seem like a glorified Bruce Almighty :T

Regardless, I will still watch it. And I hope to be pleasantly surprised by being wrong about my opinion.
