Talking to MTV about the obvious differences between the campy Stallone version of Judge Dredd and the upcoming reboot, a question was asked regarding what he would think of Stallone's opinion of Dredd. Karl simply replied: "I don't give a damn about what he thinks."

Dredd stars Karl Urban, Olivia Thirlby, Lena Headey and is directed by Pete Travis. The film is set to hit theaters September 21st.

Wait him saying he doesnt care about Stallones opinion on Dredd isn't rude, ass holish, or letting the fame get to him. The man is saying he isn't going to let Stallones thoughts about it determine how he feels about his work. Stallones son being dead has nothing to do with this.

My guess is that he didn't know. He's there to promote something so he's kind of in a bubble where it's all panels and interviews and he likely wasn't online or able to check out the news.

At least he's making it his own. I don't see this as "I don't like him" I see it as "This is MY movie, and I'm not going to try to please any expectations or pay any previous effort to make a movie like this." That's the mentality people need to have with reboots. They need to make it their own instead of trying to live up to what came before.

Did you guys watch the video? His comment isn't mean spirited. And it certainly has nothing to do with Sly's son. Karl is rightfully talking trash about Sly's version of 'Judge Dredd' in the same way that it would be completely fine for Christian Bale to take the piss out of 'Batman and Robin'.

Obviously he didn't know about the son's death, geniuses. What the hell is the matter with people?

He was getting behind his movie (and answering a stupid question)with a bit of harmless trash-talk. It's not unheard of.

You can bet Stallone, a tireless self-promoter and showman himself, is not even thinking about Urban's comment at this time, and likely wouldn't take it personally if he was aware of it, grieving or not.

Anyone who is reading some sort of ego trip or callous taunt to a bereaved man in this is tragically shit-witted.

@HarryBloodscreaming: I completely agree! Plus: why WOULD he care? Sly probably won't like it, because he'll think that his was perfect. It's like how Mr. T hated the "A-Team" film because it had sex and killing.

really just [frick]ing silly. even remotely suggesting that karl urban was in any way at all expressing insensitivity to stallone's personal problems is just stupid. he was asked if he cares if stallone doesn't like their version of Dredd, and he said he doesn't. the most you can accuse him of doing is speaking frankly, and if that's what now constitutes a break in etiquette then christopher hitchens was right when he said that civility is overrated, and that's after affording the e-mobs with internet pitchforks a level of generosity by granting that urban was being uncivilized.

basically, if you think he was in any way making any comment about anything other than stallone's opinion of their movie, then perhaps it's time to put down the rolled bill and rethink the scholarly benefits of cocaine.

I didn't even know Sly's son died, but there is a way of tactfully answering the question and being respectful and answering in the way he did. All he had to say is that it doesn't make any difference to him what Stallone thinks. Instead he has to be cocky/assholish/funny/or whatever you want to call it.

I had no idea Stallone's son died either. News to me. Karl Urban is cool though, I like his honesty.

"Son dying aside, how can you be upset at Urban, and call him the one with the big ego, when Stallone is in the same conversation? Stallone is the one who recently said CBMs are the reason why there's no good action movies anymore or something like that."

Um Stallone's [frick]ing right, Hollywood has zero faith in action movies anymore, instead they'll spend tens of millions making movies starring third rate superheros with supermodel boy faced actors. And yeah "I don't give a damn about what he thinks" is a pretty shitty thing to say about someone whose son died just hours before.

Believe it or not Stallone is married to my second cousin, Jennifer Flavin, and the couple times I've met with them they've both were very cool. It is a tragedy what happened to his son (no relation to Sage), but I think perhaps Karl got tired of answering the question. Honestly, why would he care what Sly thinks?

what a piece of shit. [frick] you urban and your piece of shit direct to dvd looking film. I'm not a fan of stallon's dredd but that doesn't mean he not good. He is one of the pioneers of action genre. And then there is this [frick] who haven't done shit besides playing supporting roles. Show some respect.
