Michael Tabb In Talks To Script A Direct-To-DVD Sequel Of The Wolfman!

If you enjoyed Joe Johnston's The Wolfman, then you'll be glad to hear that he'll be once again howling to the moon in a direct-to-DVD sequel penned by Michael Tabb...

Here is an excerpt from the report over at Bloody Disgusting. Be sure to head on over to the site for more info on the upcoming sequel to the 2010 movie which was directed by Captain America: The First Avenger helmer, Joe Johnston.

It was unclear if it was a direct-to-disc reboot or a sequel of sorts. Our inside tipster hit us back this morning telling us that Michael Tabb is now in talks to pen the screenplay for what he hears is "a sequel." The period piece is listed as "Home Entertainment," so it appears Uni is headed down the same route as Death Race, as previously reported.

Michael Tabb is best known for his work on, well, not that much really. His IMDb writing credit includes only Fear Itself: Dark Memories/Ring Around the Rosie, a straight-to-DVD horror flick about a young woman who is plagued by horrible visions and dreams of tragic past events. It actually sounds pretty good. Anyway, be sure to share your thoughts on this in the usual place!

TEA @ Not seen the directors cut... maybe I should!

Yeah I can't see where they'll go with a direct to DVD sequel... Wolfman effects are gonna look so fake?

I thought the film was horrible. I just didn't really like it. IMO Wolfman looked so bad when running around. It was cringy. Interesting to see what they do with this movie but I doubt it'll be any good.

wolfman was a decent film but it could have been sooooo much better.

I say Lon Chaney Jr.'s version is still the best. That and American Werewolf in London are the 2 best wolfman movies.

@HankAce-I'll agree with An American Werewolf in London...but have GOT to add "The Howling" to that list! IMO the BEST werewolf movie ever made!

Yeah, just what we need: another Wolfman. If it's listed as "Home Entertainment," my wager is on direct to DVD.

Wolfman was a beautiful film, but everything else just sucked. Too bad, because it could be a really awesome series.

Hey, DARKMATTER@, UNDERWORLD was basically VAMPIRE
movies! Not WEREWOLF movies exactly!

But I love the werewolves in there but the movies...
not as great!

I loved this movie. I will gladly a take a sequwel in any form I can get it. Just bring back Lawrence Talbot(hopefully with Benicio Del Toro returning in the role). He always got ressurected in the the older movies. On thing is I am not sure if Benicio or the other cast members would do a direct to dvd film.

Right you are about JOE JOHNSTON TEA@!

He took that whole train wreck on and
tried to save it! He did a good job for
his part.

You're basically correct DARKMATTER!

I just meant the Vampires were the
main concern.

im not at all surprised to hear this, the wolfman remake was absolute CRAP imo, I was so hoping it would be good, it looked great from the previews, man, did universal let me down, too fast paced, no character development at all, horrible/stupid twist ending, just awful, this deserves to go straight to dvd!

Well the Wolfman could have been better but it wasn't horrible as some say. I'm a little biased because that is my personal favorite universal film monster. I'll check out this direct-to-dvd movie.

It was an okay movie, doesn't really need a sequel. I remember when we had those annoying advertisements on here.

This better be good. I thought "The Wolfman" was really cool. It wasn't particularly my type of movie, since I'm not usually drawn to scary stuff, but I liked it a lot. Del Toro was perfect for the part, without being over the top, which would have been very easy; he was low-key in the part, which I liked. And Hopkins just knocked it straight out of the park as Del Toro's father. If they use the original plot point of making Hugo Weaving's character the new Wolfman, that would be sweet. However, I'm not willing to bet that Weaving, or any of the original cast, will want to return merely for a direct-to-DVD movie.

Tea, apparently that's not exactly what happened. I'm not going into all of it here but basically Johnston was hired because the studio knew that he would deliver what THEY wanted after the original director(who had a much more character driven and dramatic vision for the story) left. Obviously nobody knows for sure, but either way the movie was shite! Nobody ever paid good money for an excuse:)

For the simple brain the Underworld Movies immediately strikes them as Matrix clones even though they have nothing what so ever in common in narrative, style and especially in budget. Underworld movies barely get a $20 million budget yet they manage to get a lot of imagination, narrative depth and characterization to screen for what is essentially pocket change for most Hollywood studios. No Bullet-time, no philosophical allegories, no Kung Fu and no fighting with Dark Glasses!

Underworld isn't Matrix, the movies are great for what they cost and easily the most imaginative and original Vampire and Werewolf concept brought to screen in recent years. The casual expectations from the average idiot dissing these films for their production values is always laughable considering what these films really cost to make. For the insightful, they'll see what these films have done for the careers of Bill Nighy, Len Wiseman and Michael Sheen due to the quality they managed to produce under micro-budgets!

Ceejay Underworld Evolution is pretty solid for a 50 mil budget. The Man Bat truck chase scene uses digital and practical FX and it looks good. I don't understand the business logic behind Rise of the Lycons, but I hear Kates back for part 4.
