In a piece about which of the summer blockbusters released this year look set to get a sequel, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that 20th Century Fox and Ridley Scott are moving ahead with a follow-up to Prometheus. With a budget of $130 million and a worldwide box office gross of $303 million, there's no reason for the studio not to continue the franchise. Both Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace are signed up to return, although it's unclear whether or not the films co-writer Damon Lindelof will be able to return due to other commitments. "Ridley is incredibly excited about the movie, but we have to get it right. We can't rush it," Fox president of production Emma Watts, told the site. Apparently, the Prometheus sequel will be released in 2014 or 2015.

In the distant future, two superpowers control Earth and fight each other for all the solar system's natural resources. When one side dispatches a team to a distant planet to terraform it for human colonization, the team discovers an indigenous race of bio-mechanoid killers. Ridley Scott, director of 'Alien' and 'Blade Runner,' returns to the genre he helped define. With PROMETHEUS, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.

STARRING:

Noomi Rapace as Elizabeth Shaw
Michael Fassbender as David
Guy Pearce as Stannison
Idris Elba as Captain Janek
Logan Marshall-Green as Holloway
Charlize Theron as Meredith Vickers

RELEASE DATE: June 1st 2012 (UK) June 8th, 2012 (US)

Other than Dark Knight Rises this was easily my favorite movie of the year. I can understand why some people might not be happy with the way some of the people acted, but that's pretty much par for the course for movies like this. Go back and watch Alien again, you'll find some of the same issues. Also, not sure why people were confused by this movie. I left satisfied and had very little questions and the ones I do have I'm sure will be addressed in the sequel. The only problem I can see people having is that this didn't end with the beginning of Alien, but that was never the intention of the movie in the first place.

I'm glad we got some official confirmation. There was a lot of hate and a lot of love for the movie so I'm pretty happy that we get to see what happens next.
I'm sure Ridley has taken in all the criticism and will deliver us a better sequel.

Please, don't get Lindelof to write the script again. We need a story that answers everything and actually makes sense.

Excellent news.
I bets there are nasties aplenty on that ship that Noomi pinched at the end and I bet it crashes on LV426.

Liked the first one but hope that the sequel actually finishes a story instead of basically playing like a feature-length trailer for another sequel.

Somebody should let Lindelof know there's a difference between ambiguity and just not answering questions.

I'm a huge Lost and Damon Lindelof fan. I think most of the hate he gets is because people don't like that he expects his audience to have to think for themselves. Not everything needs to be laid out explained. It's good to have questions and for writer's to leave room for the audience to make their own decisions about what is happening or what could happen.

2014 already a big year for FOX. They got the sequels to Rise of the Planet of The Apes & X-Men: FC coming out, and the re-release of ID4 in 3D.

I think they need to pursue someone other than Damon Lindelof. His writing was.... bad.

Redshirt: "Hey guys! We're stuck in this giant circular spaceship, and we got lost!"

Ship: "How did you get lost in a giant circle?"

Reshirt: "Hey look! Space cobras! Let's take off our helmets and play with them!"

Prometheus was my biggest disappointment of the year to say the least. I thought, "Ridley Scott back again in the Alien universe! What could go wrong?". Well I got my answer. My son got it right about the 'cobra-alien' creature. He said it was like the writers got together over shots and decided to see who could come up with the stupidest death scene!

Maybe a sequel can make up for it but I am not counting on it.

Prometheus = Biggest. Disappointment. Of. The. Year. (if not the millennium)

I thought Prometheus was really good. I didn't feel confused by it. The only question that needs answering is, if you created us why do you want to destroy us now? Looking forward to a sequel.

ElDuce74

I haven't seen it yet but plan on renting it. From what I can gather, Lindelof sh-t the bed on this as he did on the entire final season of Lost? Yeah, Lost WAS the greatest show until the entire final season. Even Season 4 fell apart at times. They painted themselves into a corner and did the cop out "the entire season is a made up timeline". Bullsh-t. Too many plots that went nowhere and idea's that were never fully realized.

A television series has to be consistent from start to finish in order to be the "greatest". That is why only one series, in my eyes, can be considered one of the greatest: The Shield.
