New Details On Gareth Edwards' STAR WARS Spinoff; May Not Feature Bounty Hunters

Remember those reports that Gareth Edwards' 2016 Star Wars spinoff will feature a team of bounty hunters? Well, it now appears as if the team that the movie focuses on will be quite a bit different. Hit the jump for details on that and possibly an update on Han Solo's role...

A pretty dubious sounding rumour recently started doing the rounds which indicated that Han Solo might play a role in the first Star Wars spinoff movie which is dated for 2016. Gareth Edwards is directing, and the same site which broke the story mentioned above also indicated that Breaking Bad's Aaron Paul could end up playing a role (many have since linked him to Han Solo even though there original report didn't). As hard as it is to believe, it does make some sense, especially as we recently learned from a far more reliable source that the spinoff will focus on a team of bounty hunters hired by the Rebels to steal the plans of the first Death Star AND that the Millennium Falcon will factor into the movie somehow. Badass Digest however have weighed in on the rumour, and they mention that this, "matches up with what I've heard recently, that the first film is about a group of 'pirates' as opposed to 'bounty hunters,' which could easily include young Mr. Solo." This does make a little more sense, as a roguish team of heroes would in some ways work better than a group of mercenaries who we saw working with Darth Vader in The Empire Strikes Back...

@JoshWilding - Ya know what I'm gonna ask... ;)

I don't really mind, I'm sure there was a good reason you had to delete it. Had it been posted before or something?

@JoshWilding - Coolio. Thought it was a bit odd that no one had reported on it seeing as the dude made those tweets a few weeks ago.

@MaCBMBrothers - There was a good reason. Josh said we've known about the release date for a while.

It still doesn't account for the lack of Inbetweeners gifs on here, but we'll just have to start again.

So are we suppose to believe that Han Solo was involved in the stealing the plans for the Death Star, but yet never bothered to mention it in ANH? Yeah, im not buying this for a second.
BigFoster
BigFoster - 12/31/2014, 9:21 AM
But the plans were stolen just before A New Hope takes place, so how can a young Han Solo be involved, plus Han Clearly had no idea or interest in what was going on with the rebellion at the begining of a new hope

If its being made by the Godzilla director I am really going to be disappointed. Godzilla was the worst movie I've seen in a long time.
If it were up to me I would take a different route with Harrison Ford a Aaron Pau, and design the movie around each man's strength's as actors, and with respect to Han Solo the character.
At Ford's age and with his natural gravitas as an older man, an outlaw turned General as Han Solo, I would set it up in TFA that Han learns he has an adult son and his solo film, (pun there), would be a father searching for his son.
That core plot plays to both actors truest strengths. No one plays the hurt, resentful well meaning but angry young man better than Paul. And no one can do Han Solo better than Ford.
I also hope they use my idea, (and maybe kick a little my way, eh?), because it's really important for American culture to have more fathers represented in films, addressing the adult children that grew up in broken families. That is so mainstream now, it's so common for kids to have part-time Dad's, who were kids without full-time fathers themselves...We are 2 or 3 generations deep into the age of broken families...I think Han Solo chasing after his lost son and the two then coming to terms with that lost time, and getting a second chance with each other is extremely important and it is exactly what they should do.
Anything less than that is unacceptable.

Young Lando Calrissian better be incorporated into this as well, if the Falcon is in this. It would be cool to see Jabba the Hutt as well. Han dumps his cargo don't you remember?

Aaron Paul would make much more sense in the role of Mako Spince than Han Solo; heading up the gang of pirates/smugglers and acting as a mentor of sorts to young Han.

@Nerdman I totally agree. These companies need to cease and desist with this whole prequel nonsense!
And kudos to the "singers hackery" comment *classic. Couldn't have said it better. If only the movie studios would catch a hint.

How can we have details of the plot since we don't even have the one of the episod to come ? First things first, then we'll see.
