Peter Parker's Parents And New Villain Cast In Spider-Man Reboot!

An actor has signed on to play Spider-Man's father, while the mother is still in talks! PLUS: A new villain and his wife are also in negotiations! Find out who they all are and what roles they're up for after the jump...

The Hollywood Reporter have an exclusive report with the news that Campbell Scott (Damages) has joined the cast of the upcoming reboot as Richard Parker, while Julianne Nicholson (Law & Order: Criminal Intent) is in talks to play the webslingers mother, Mary.

Irrfan Khan, best known for his work in Slumdog Millionaire, is reported to be playing a villain named Van Atter while Annie Parisse (who had a recurring role on Law & Order a few years back and recently appeared in HBO epic, The Pacific) is said to be up for the role of his wife.

What's most interesting about this news, is the addition of a new villain who is (as far as I know) NOT a character taken from the comic books! "Van Atter" certaintly sounds like a scientists name, which would make sense with Rhys Ifans playing the Lizard...be sure to share your thoughts on these casting and character additions in the usual place!

The untitled Spider-Man reboot is set to be released in 3D on July 3, 2012!

Great find buddy;) This movie is shaping up nicely.

I don't find that interesting at all. I was all up for a reboot but NOT for the invention of new characters. In this case, why don't they just invent a new hero and have him star in this film instead of Spider-man?

Unless... unless he's merely the villain that made Peter's parents die. And then we never hear about him again. Hmmm... that would be a plot hole. Scratch that, and scratch him.

BTW, Julianne Nicholson is a total FAWKSSS!!!! Love 'em freckles!!! :))

Daredevil89- So you mean to say that... Sony wants to keep Curt Connors a secret... all while they seem to have Billy Connors cast in it??? Brilliant.

maybe he's some corporate type who pressures connor in to developing the lizard serum thing who knows, but damn his wife his hot and no news on the osbournes so i am guessing there not going to be part of it yet

@Shaman as far as i remember sony never officially announced that the lizard was going to be the villain

DCMF: Thanks bud! :)

While I'm not really a fan of them introducing characters that arent in the comic books, I'll reserve judgement until we know more. Shaman actually makes a good point about him possibly being the villain responsible for the death of Peter's parents, because they cant exactly use the Red Skull in this movie! As long as it's not as a new supervillain or something that major, I'll be ok with it. (again, Ibz suggestion of him being involved with the Lizard makes sense)

Great casting choices all round though IMO. I'm especially liking the choices for Richard and Mary Parker. It's going to be great to see what Webb does with them both in the movie. Prologue? Flashbacks? Something else? Colour me intrigued and just a little bit more excited for this movie.

atleast there doing something different with the origin introducing peters parents, and damn if marvel had the rights they could blamed red skull for the death of peters parents that would have been a great way to connect spidey to the MCU, but i am quite optimistic about this reboot

(ROR: As you can see below, I've only just realised that! :) Cant say I'm familiar with him though in all honesty!)

Just had a look around and there's some speculation that Khan's role might just be Nels Van Adder, aka Proto-Goblin.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I personally think it's just a coincidence, as I see no reason why they'd change it from Adder to Atter unless THR made a mistake. I'm a big Spider-Man fan and dont remember ever even hearing about this guy...why the [frick] would they make a character like this one of the villains!? I'm guessing we wont see Proto-Goblin to be honest. :P

I doubt this Van Atter will be a major villain like Lizard, he'll probably just be Connor's superiour and he's an asshole or something.

earzmundo- Will do Anil! Sorry about that. No offense to anyone in particular on here, just that sometimes certain posters get a tad liberal with certain words on occasion, is all.

BTW- If Van Atter is indeed the proto goblin or whatever that character is as long as he's in the books, then i'm all good :)

I thought this reboot was shaping up nicely... til I read this... Van Atter? I hope that's just a spelling mistake referring to Proto-Goblin... I doubt it

I'm just waiting for the moment they cast Sarah Jessica Parker as Swiss Miss
ElBeaster

We need norman osborn in it, but not as the villain yet. That would suck.

I wish they would think this out. Idk why writers don't look at all three movies. SET UP VILLAIN BACKSTORIES IN MOVIES BEFORE YOU USE THEM. If you're planning on using, say, the Jackal, then put him in the first one for a couple scenes.

If he's a new villain altogether, I'd be pissed. Why put him in a Spider-man movie if he has nothing to do with Spider-man.

@Lee
Spidey 2o29 was a doucher who would post articles and they would get taken off. So one day, he filmed one of his articles and posted it on youtube and then when the article got taken down, he posted the video on here. I didn't read the article, but his comments were full of idiodic shit
ElBeaster
ElBeaster - 12/3/2010, 1:43 PM
Maybe he is the Goblin and someone else will be the Lizard? Maybe he'll make the Proto Goblin as a test before he becomes the Goblin in the second one.

Idk this is just wishful speculation. they never think ahead

ElBeaster @ Damn, these vids on YouTube then, darn.

As for Norman Osborn I hope they never use him, we need fresh villains for this reboot not the same, if they have brains they will do an 'INCREDIBLE HULK' and keep it sorta a Reboot Continuation!

Otherwise I agree with Grif lol! : P

Hopefully the parents etc can be done in flashbacks!

I've got to agree with Intruder - I too want to see Norman Osborn again! Willem Dafoe was well cast and his Green Goblin was great (apart from the costume) but I'd like to see a more faithful version that's built up in the first movie and results in the death of Gwen by the second.

Proto-Goblin?!:D You gotta be [frick]ing kiddin´ me?! Plus everytime i hear the name Van Atter/Adder! I can only think one guy!... And that is Rowan Atkinson aka Sir. Edmund Blackadder!:D

Im pretty sure they are just gonna keep this Adder in his humanform in the movie!:)

Billy Crudup should be Curt Conners / The Lizard (Only villain in his monster form!)
Rhys Ifans is best fitted as Electro, The Jackal or Green Goblin, but i say he should be Electro!
Bryan Cranston is my choice as Goblin (He would be great JoshW)
JGL as Harry Osborn
Charlie Hunnam as Eddie Brock / Venom
Philip Seymour Hoffman as Doc Ock
Gerard Butler as Kraven
And
Paul Bettany as Chameleon (I would like to see this character as more menacing and manipulative version. He and Kraven should be the real villains in this movie. First hunting down The Lizard and then Spider-Man)

@Lee
I would agree with you that they need new villains, except the death of gwen stacy is my favorite moment in any mainstream superhero comic. That moment needs to be done, and done right. So i really think it has to happen exactly like it did in the comics.

I loved Willam Defoe as the Goblin and I did like the suit, but I would love to see a classic looking goblin on screen.

Here is my villain line up for the reboot:
1st Movie The Lizard and Proto Goblin
2nd Movie Electro
3rd Movie Green Goblin and Doc Ock

Second Trilogy
4th Movie Venom
5th Movie Venom and Carnage
6th Movie Hobgoblin (Harry), Doc Ock, Electro, Kraven, Sandman, Shocker
The Osborn Trilogy!
Okay so the first movie should have vlad atter being a worker for Osbron and he test's the first draft of the goblin formula and he turns into Proto Goblin.
In the second movie Max Dillon should be a mechanic for Oscorp and he gets into a lab accident w/ the tech and the doctors only choice of saving Max is to inject him w/ the goblin formula which gives him his powers. At the end of the second movie Osbron tells his workers to prep the chemical chamber..where he will become the Goblin in the next movie. in the fifth movie Harry has an overdose of the goblin formula by drinking it and it goes insane and becomes stronger. he changes the color of the original goblin costume to orange and blue and becomes the Hobgoblin. At the end of the sixth movie harry realizaes what he has done to Peter and turns against the Sinister Six. after that harry collapses on the ground after the battle and his mouth is spewing out green blood looking stuff and he tells Peter he's sorry for all he's caused and Harry starts to faid away! thats my Osborn trilogy!

I have a feeling we'll see Proto-Goblin for like 9 seconds. Norman will be over-looking the test, Atter gets the Goblin serum. It [frick]s up and he transforms into proto-goblin before Norman gets proto-goblin taking down quickly. Or he's just in there for a refrence.
