Michael Bay Producing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Reboot

Michael Bay Producing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Reboot

This will be the second cartoon based film franchise the action oriented director takes on after Transformers.

Rumors of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle film relaunch has been non-existant with the exception of the standard internet rumor rumblings. That all changes today with official word that the franchise is moving forward.

According to Deadline Hollywood:

Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon have brought Michael Bay and his Platinum Dunes partners Brad Fuller and Andrew Form on to produce Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the live-action film that reboots the film series launched by New Line in 1990. Bay, Fuller and Form will produce with Galen Walker and Scott Mednick.

The report also says that the Producers should be meeting with writers over the next few weeks. I personally don't really know what to expect from Bay's involvement besides the fact that it likely won't be a cheap PG flick and the fact that it will have a lot of action is a given.

Michael Bay seems to have made it his goal to get the rights to every 80's franchise he can get and make sub-par versions of them, whether as producer or director. Even though they seem to make money (most of the time) fans of these franchises have to stop supporting this. And the only way to do that is to stop going to see them. Let the studios see that the movie going public wants more from them. And the only way to do this is low ticket sales. Money is the bottom line here. Fans may have waited years to see their favourite characters on the big screen, but they don't deserve watered down, bland one-dimensional movies. Insane action alone can't carry a movie. Considering how much it costs to go to a theatre today, a little bit of entertaining story and plot is not a lot to ask.

Sorry for the rant. Just tired of all of these crappy movies coming out, when they could be really great if the filmmakers wanted them to be.

Micheal Bay will turn it into Teenage Mutant Ghetto Turtles. Leonardo will have switch blades instead of swords, Michaelangelo will have chains, Donatello will have a bat, and Raphael will have a gun lol

LOL,let's just wait and see what happens before jumping to conclusions please. Seeing as how the new owner of the IP Nickolodeon is involved, while I know that they won't do a PG cheesy flick. But they'll probably put a limit on how much Michael Bay style humor is in the film.

Dark tone and explosions can go together just fine IMO I just hope it isn't overkill. Surprisingly though,The Nightmare on Elm Street(mediocre) remake was pretty dark and not explosion heavy. I'll see what happens over time though. Also TMNT started out as a comic book.

@BIGBMH: I'm not either but maybe we can scream and convince them to add the creators Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman as creative consultants. Paramount did it for GI Joe:Rise of The Cobra after those bad first drafts. Anyway yes,Bay is only producing even though he might here one of his Platinum Dunes buddies as a director

Hey guys after rereading that article,I found a reason to give this a chance

What reason you ask? Because Scott Mednick and Galen Walker are still producers even though it's now in collaboration with Platinum Dunes. And why is this important? Because they are fans of the TMNT comics and they promised a dark Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle film inspired from the comics last summer at Comic-Con,here's the link on the matter:

So with this info will you guys atleast give it a chance before raging and writing it off?

I guess I'm the only person who enjoyed the Transformers movies? The first was largely superior to the second, but I enjoyed both, none-the-less.

The TMNT were a HUGE part of my childhood and even my teenage years when I picked up some of the original comics. I'm incredibly excited for another live-action outing, here's hoping it's more along the lines of the original live action film and caters less to the younger demographic.

I'm not going to fool myself into thinking it can't turn into a shit-storm or a kid-friendly PG film, but from what's been said by Walker and Mednick, I'm hoping for a dark-toned PG-13 TMNT.

Until I see some artwork or actual showinigs of the Turttles made by Bay, then I say I'm actually a little excited. Hopefully the films won't be filled with sexual humor like the last Transformers did which made it suck.

But I do like Transformers though.
sweetre15
sweetre15 - 5/28/2010, 12:05 PM
Well with Walker and Mednick on board,I'm hoping that put a figuratively stick their foot up Bay's ass if he tries any sexual humor because last year they promised a dark-toned Ninja Turtle film inspired from the comics so they should be able to stay true to their word. But please add Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman as creative consultants.
